Re: home brew quarter sprint
A little update on what's happening here. I'm actively shopping for the right engine at the right price for this thing. The plan is for independent suspension front & rear. Set up to run on asphalt & to turn both right & left. Been reviewing this book which I've owned for 20 yrs, at leas...

Re: Ferrari 330 P4
When looking at a full screen blow-up of your diagram, the bellhousing/clutch can/scattershield between the engine & trans (what ever the proper Ferrari term may be) seems quite long. I assume that there's no way to shorten it to help correct the alignment of the axle?

Re: home brew quarter sprint
Little more shop development. Boxed in around the mill to help with chip containment. I broke down all of my benches & shelves when I moved & I've still got some odd sized pieces for stuff like this. I build with screws rather than nails, so it all came apart very cleanly & easily. Plus,...

Re: Ferrari 330 P4
That's got to be really frustrating...it's a beautiful piece!!
What's your solution?

Re: home brew quarter sprint
Getting settled into the new-to-me house & finally some time to start setting up the shop.
8' of new bench space, a build table in the center with access from four sides & a table for my benchtop mill.
And, my buddy & administrative assistant, Lou thu DAWG.

Re: home brew quarter sprint
Thanks CAL.
Haven't been around much lately.
In the process of moving.
New shop will have 5X space of where I've been working. !!

You do really nice work.
Are you replacing the green one with this?

Re: Ferrari 330 P4
I'm an old school guy who builds stuff out of my head & with simple dimensional drawings.
Very interested in how design & engineering is executed at the next level.
Any thing that you would find yourself willing to share would be appreciated.

Re: Ferrari 330 P4
Have been admiring your chassis design.
Are you calculating roll center, cg, polar moment of inertia etc in it's design?
Really dig your machine work.

Re: home brew quarter sprint
Yes, quite a bit of power. I'm overbuilding it structurally to accommodate the power. For comparison...a 410 winged sprint weighs around 1400 lb wet, with driver & is powered by 800+ hp engines. This gives a power to weight ratio of 1.75 lbs per hp. If my build weighs 150 lbs & has 35 hp, th...

Re: home brew quarter sprint
Over the weekend, I looked at a nice 750 inline Honda 4 with 5 speed. Price was very attractive. If it had been a few inches smaller, dimensionally, I would have probably brought it home with me. After quite a bit of research, what I think I'd like to use is a ninja 250 twin by Kawasaki. 4 stroke, o...

Re: home brew quarter sprint
I'm adding an inner set of rails to manage the engine, driveline weight & torque. Will be lightened to match the sides of the cage. What I have shown here is 14 lbs. Not sure what driveline weight will be. I'd like to see a total vehicle weight of around 100 lbs, with at least 20 hp in power...c...
