While I was never a fan of the S.S.B.B. method of forward motion, John's latest "rocket car" has changed my thinking, great work by a true master...

I hope that the video cameras are running when Mike lights the fuse on this puppy , a night run would be awesome !!!!

For the uninformed....S.S.B.B. = Suck, Spin, Burn, Blow.......

Mike, Poco Foam brand material from Poco Graphite may keep Hot Shot from melting. Also, some of the header coatings like Jet Hot may work of applied on a thin heat shield.

thanks for the tip. That gave me an idea. We have something here we use over hoses. Its called fire sleeve. It has a silicone cover and fiberglass inside. I think i could cut this stuff and open it up and bond it to the heat shield... Hmmmmmm.

why not use heat shields for ignition wires??? MSD makes them...you can cut them to length, and just slide them over the tubing...

I have some extra oven mitts you can duct tape on.

With all of these great suggestions (minus mine of course), you should have no problem protecting it from the heat. Now if you'd just get it painted and move it off my side of the bed so I don't have to sleep with the dogs... :D

here is a start to the concept. It will be an exhaust shroud made to look like the intake and exhaust of a jet. This is just foam to get the shape, then it gets made into a fiberglass mold. After that, it can be layed up in carbon fiber. Underneath the shroud i will have insulation and two deflectors near the brakes. I think the shape is coming along OK?

i think it would hold more heat in as you just stopped all the fresh air flow...

just my 2 cents worth...

that is what the inlet on the front will be for. It will direct the air right over the exhaust...

Yes is does look good on there. I do think that with the rest of your plans the carbon fiber would add something to the look. If you do the carbon fiber and you dont like it then send me your plug and we will do it out of aluminum.

At this moment, its stored in one of the QSL archives. All work has come to a stop over here on 1/4 scale. It will probably be quite some time before this stuff sees light again.

suggestion i would not cover the exhaust area specially if you have a hot start you want the fire to exit and by covering it that wont happen. You also might want to add a Fod Screen to your turbine so it wont ingest things that can damage the front compressor wheel.

Im going to build a Twin Jet dragster like Steve Cotugno's Bostonian ;-) i have a set of Jetcat P-80's that put out 18 LBS of thrust each..

These are my 2 Turbines ;-)

just so you are aware All Jet Turbines new and Old run Kero/Jet A/Diesel with oil added to the fuel that goes for PST, Jetcat, Jet Central, AMT, Wren, Behotec and kintech Turbines. Also the fuel lines you currently have will not burn or melt unless they come in contact with the turbine.
