Just bought a Pacesetter silver dollar Funny Car

Post by PaulSongas »

Just picked this up today. It's in good shape, and someone did pretty nice work on anodizing a LOT of parts red, even the rear end. I saw it, and just had to have it.

I plan on taking it down to the frame, getting it blasted, repainted then put it back together with a different electronics package.

Yes I got the body too. Very cool chute pack (also pacesetter?) The paint is awesome, but it's flared out on the sides something terrible, and there is some damage in the left front. The damage is the easy part, the flare... :?:

I don't know if anyone (mike?) has a copy of the serial number sheet from Pacesetter to see what cars are what, but here is the tag from mine.

And.. The beginning of the re-build. Took it down to the bare frame today.

Wow. Brings back memories. If your going to put it up on a shelf, Powder coat it. If your actually going to run it, shoot it with some gloss krylon and have fun.

Bob Smith is sending me a different back section, and wheelie bars to go with it.

Thanks for the tip..I think I might just do that. This particular body is damaged in the front end anyway, so I'm not too afraid to try some things with it.

Couple more...

Quick Update

Bob Smith came through with some wheelie bars, and a new rear section to fit them. I made some side plates for the upper mount for adjustment.

Also picked up a MRO Body to go along with my Vette.

Wheelie bars are a nice scale touch, but make it very difficult to load in/load out of your real car without damaging them.
Unless you're hauling the car around in the back of a full-size pickup, you might want to make those removeable for much easier transport. My funny car won't even FIT into the back of our Mazda MPV minivan without unhooking the wheelie bar.

Worked on it some tonight..

If you saw the build on my chain-drive car, I had the control box up front. This time, I am going to tuck it in the rear this time. I am going to keep the brake servo in the same place as when I got it, and that does not leave a lot of room for other stuff up front.

Here is the trial fitting.

What you see, are the 2 on/off switches, as well as charging jacks for the battery pack.

Well spring is here... Time to get to work on the cars...

I have the FC almost done. All it needs is throttle/brake linkage, and a fuel tank and fuel lines, and get the engine bolted in. I may get BRP rubber front and rear also.

The body will be last.
