As promised, here's some pics of the body nearly done. I have to get it clear-coated, so the windshield and scoop are just taped in place.

It's getting there, though...

I'm not into the nostalgia cars much mike.. But i must say that looks nice... Did you airbrush it or are they vinyl graphics?
What brand of clear are you going to use?

Thanks, guys...

With the exception of the F;ashBack logo, the Coke and LRU emblems, and the headlights and taillights, it's all painted.

As for the clear coat, I really don't know what to do.
Back in Anaheim, I borrowed a large compressor and door-jam gun to spray this recommended two-part acrylic clear that gave me a raging headache for three days. It cost about $60 a quart, and they didn't even want to sell it to me, (hazardous stuff)LOL!!!

Anyway, I don't have access to a larger sprayer these days, don't know what brand of clear to get, or if there's anywhere around here to get it, so I'll probably just try to find a local custom motorcycle shop and see if they'll clear-coat it for me.

Your painting skills look pretty good to me mike... Personally i would lean towards using Dupont Chroma clear coat.. PPG has a fairly good gloss but it wont hold up as well as the Dupont will... In the painters world we call PPG, '' Pretty Poor Gloss '' If you or other clear it i would suggest you apply at least three coats of clear... allowing it cure between coats and wet sanding it, 1 st coat 1500 grit, 2 nd coat 2500 grit
then let the final clear coat dry for 72 hours in a non humid location with a room temperature of 70 degrees or so . Also if you take it in to be cleared i would strongly suggest you tell them NOT to use any heat lights on it to cure it quicker... Why? because it will cause the clear to wrinkle and create porosity within the clear... Many times the porosity is very hard to see but it's there.. This will also cause clear coat contamination and eventually the clear will lift... Been there done it,

Thanks for the good info... I'm going to try to find some DuPont clear locally. At worst, I may have to drive to St.Louis to buy it.

Man, painting fiberglass (on the outside) is really hard for me. Painting in reverse, under clear Lexan, is much, much easier.... after painting Lexan for so long. my mind just constructs the layers/sequence that way easier.

Do a google search for Finishmaster in your area! you could always look on ebay for some as well but i wouldn't count on getting a good deal on some,,, I would go with DuPont ChromaClear V-7500S Multi-Use & ChromaClear V-7585S Overall Activator-Reducer

As far as preparing the surface goes! Use a 3M 7448 Ultra-Fine scotch bright scuff pad... Remember you don't need to bear down on the scuff pad... Just lightly scuff the surface prior to clearing it... Then tack it with a new tack cloth.. Then clean the surface with 3M Citrus based cleaner, Stock Number: 62461549305

I use the DuPont Chroma system or DuPont Imron to paint all my 1:1 cars/bikes. When I paint my fibergalss Pacesetter body, I'll use Dupont Hot Hues with the Chroma clear. I buy my supplies at Finishmasters as well. Just another data point.

Thanks for the input... looks like I'll be heading over to St. Louis soon.

Sometimes it sucks living here in flyover country...

Thanks, FM...

Now that LRU has the mold for these nostalgia funny car bodies (actually, with the grille decals I made, mine's a Firebird), I can't WAIT to see what other people build with them.

Jungle Jim? War Eagle? USA-1?
