My Quarter Mortar Funny Car Project

Post by Al Gibson (QSL) »

Life has been busy with work and full time school, but i feel the need to get started again on my Quarter Mortar Funny Car Project. I am setting up the throttle and brake servos and will be installing the receiver module soon. I just installed the hydraulic brake tubing and bled the brakes, working great. I hope to be racing this car soon. Al

So what are you working on?, post your projects pictures!!

Thanks Mike. I Just got the brakes hooked up, working on the throttle. I need to get this thing fired up and tested. Hopefully my carbon fiber body will be ready soon. Al

Man, that looks great. Hearing them run for the first time is always the best.

This is my throttle/brake set up. It's not as smooth as I would like. Does anybody have any ideas to make this a better set up for my hyd brake and throttle servo?

This maybe way off base but I run electric drag cars with a mechanical brake and I use a three channel radio. I turn the brake side way down low so that I am not using my motor to slow the car down as this will limit the life of the motor and use channel 3 for the brake. Just a thought unless you plan on using a parachute then that plan goes out the window

If you shortened the distance of throttle and brake rods it will be a smother transition. But it looks your going to have move the servo closer. The shorter the distance results in less flexing of the rods, less draw on the servo and less strain, which will result in a smoother transition

Finished setting up the body on the chassis, getting ready to try some fiber glass repair, body work and hopefully paint on this car!

Love the rear setup, VERY nice indeed! QM makes a superb 1/4 scale, question is, will the legacy be passed down?

Al, That's a great looking funnycar. Where will you race it and what size motor does it have?

I want to race it once my life calms down a bit. It has a DDM CY460 in it with a high performance jug and piston.

Al, It seams that the IMDRA which is East coast and Mid West drag racing have changed the rules to a 49cc engine max. I have a 54cc Solo engine. Does anyone know of high Pref. engines or builders for 49cc engines or a little smaller? And what brand of engines are Good?
