Hey Dom!!

I seen them dragster frames in another thread here.. Nice!!

Congrats on the 3 in 1 machine... them little things can be quite complicating when it comes so setting up the required tooling per job... been there done it... If you have any questions regarding the setup or what have yaa check out these guys..

I'm sure there will be someone there that will be able to help you.. should you need it... Also if you do run into x axis height problems in the future on the 3 in 1 you could always step up to a very simmuliar type machine such as the pics below.. I know a few that use this type of setup and have turned out many nice precise chips on them..

Ohh you haven't got it yet! Well Dom i would strongly suggest you with a grizzly then.. Why,, Well for one grizzly carries excellent products.. they also stand behind there warranty quite well... Example... i know a guy on the cnczone forum that had a issue with one of the y axiz dove tails and needed it replaced.. he then notified sieg in china about it and they said to send them the machine so it could be repaired... you know them china men.. they don't see to straight..LOL meanwhile i read another post on cnczone with a simmuliar problem but the guy purchased his machine from grizzly... They asked him what the model and part number was and sent it to him within a few days.. Now that's service!!!

Now back to the size limitations,, well the majority of the 3 in 1 machines are fairly light.. somewhere in the ball park of let say 250lbs to 450 lbs or soo... There really not that rigid of a machine... the lathe bed makes up the majority of there weight... When the column should actually make up the majority of the weight instead... That's just one of the flaws in the 3 in 1 machines.. There almost impossible to tram as well.. if not impossible, Which in case you don't know.. means that the head needs to be perpendicular with the table... If it's not your parts wont be true as well.. this same formula applies to round column mills as well.. there is none or very limited adjustments that can be done to true them to the table...Drill press.. same issue!!

Now if you do go with a 3 in 1 machine make sure the head has some sort of an adjustment point to it... Some of them have a box column within the head support.. that's what you want.. The tram is adjusted on the head to column box section... I'm not trying to talk you out of purchasing a complete table top 3 in 1 machine.. but i would think twice about it... Do some research on them.. Like i mentioned cnczone has many forums with all types of machines, if your not familiar with cnczone your probably thinking like the majority of people do... yeah but that's CNC... I'm talking manual.. same rule applies.. in fact.. the majority of them guys there are converting there manual machines over to cnc,, As i am currently..

Another thing you need to take into consideration is the height from the table to the tool that you have in the holder.. depending on height clearance you may not be able to machine your tallest part on the 3 in 1 machine.. That's another flaw with them.. the tool to table clearance is limited.. Also why I'm going over this.. how are going to mic your parts? caliper, micrometer?? The reason I'm asking is because if you do plan on micing them with a caliper or micrometer it's going to get old real quick.. you know.. stop go, stop go,, and so on... If you really want to make life easier for yourself i would suggest you go with a quality DRO setup... Then all you need to do is enter your values into the dro,, zero it.. and start machining the part until the readout displays the desired numbers you entered...

anyhow... enough said for now... if you need any help along the way let me know dom..
