Removiong Rust (help Please)

Post by Lovedr »

Hello:

I bought a cnc mill about 3 or 4 months ago and it came with a lot of tools. I placed the tools in a plastic box and I have not messed with it since. now, the tools are rusted and I need help please. I tried the CLR and Navel Jelly. I'm able to somewhat get the rust off but how do i get the stainless steel shine they had before. these tools are not made of stainless steel, they just had that shine to them. I'm really bummed about this. any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Oh, that really sucks! I am sorry to hear this. I am afraid there is no real way to get them perfect again without doing some type of tumbling or blasting, then the bits will dull out... I think the best thing to do is clean them the best you can and put them in service asap. When you start using them, I think they will clean up on the spots that are cutting.

Linseed oil...

Apply some linseed oil with a clean cloth and work into the surface well.. Then either use a wire brush or steel wool and brush it well in one direction, Then wash it well with hot soapy water... DONE!
