What engine for Gilmer midget

I'm new to this site and building my first quarter scale car. I want my car to run, rather than just a display model, and will be fitting as many working parts as possible. So I'm waiting delivery of a Gilmer U build Midget here in the UK, and am wondering if the newer Saito twin Gas engine would fit instead of the 90 size engine. Looking at the relevant dimensions the gas engine is about 1 inch wider each side. Looking at full size midgets with VW twin type engine they do seem to protrude some way. Appreciate any comments, thanks
