RC4WD Skellenger Winters Copy Rear End

Post by Mike Casey »

Received my sample today to evaluate. WOW this thing is massive and very interesting!!!

-Appears to be copied directly from a skellenger winters rear. Parts can be interchanged and the bolts are even the same thread.

-Axle width is quite a bit wider. Good for a truck, but not good for a car. However I wonder if the knuckles can be removed and hubs moved inward.

-Comes with hub adapters and suspension components to setup a three link rear.

-Has a diff!!! Very smooth action!!!

Overall I am very impressed. Machine work is top notch and the axle is really heavy duty. Much better then their fifth scale rear. Keep in mind though this axle is probably twice the weight of a skellenger.

I would really recommend anyone getting these. For the 300 price tag, it is surely a bargain and is going to open up a lot of possibilities to the hobby!!!

Very nicely done RC4wd!!!!

I think it should be in their best interest to show possible alteration options, this is what's holding me back from buying one, can the steering knuckles be removed? I believe once this gets clarified or they decide to bring out a straight axle (which should be lower in price) this should alleviate some of the inflated prices on the Skellys and the likes. Purely my opinion.

I am going to try and remove the knuckles in a few days. I want to see if it's easy to convert to straight axle. I don't think these are really going to reduce the value of a Skellenger. Originals will always have a collector value. These will be awesome for builders and drivers!!

Waiting on a few! Yes they can be modified! With a little imagination! If they turn out to be right ! This opens up a whole new avenue! I have been planning a jeep 1/4 scale for a long time , these make that project doable!

I've been looking at them too. Thinking about putting a QC rear in a Gilmer. I believe the RC4WD unit could be cut down and modified to a straight axle easily enough, but it looks like the pumpkin is just too big for the space in a Gilmer. Thx for the pictures and report

Cheers

Unless I read it wrong there is an optional part to lock the steering, for me the trouble is the width. Hey Mike are the gears that change the ratio the same as a skelly?
