1/8 aluminun midget racer

Post by Emilio »

Hey everyone, little project going on. I purchased this aluminum body that I believe was to be some sort of table trophy or something as the fabricated had molded a thick base at the bottom. my goal is to turn this into a pre war tether car. Things done so far are I've fabricated the front axle, purchased a rear axle that is from the 1930s or 40s and trimmed all the fat from the original design of the body to house all the hardware, still have to make engine mounts, radius arms, a new hood, seat, exhaust then paint. hope you enjoy this humble project, I know I am. :)

Hey folks;

Made a new hood for the engine, wish I could have covered the head completely but I like it either way. Thinking about mounting the hood on a piano hinge but it's not priority for the moment. See you soon with an update and hope you like!

Hey folks moving forward, I secured the leaf spring to the body and made the front radius arms. But first I want to give these little floor jacks a plug, if no one as ever seen or used one, these things are very handy indeed and I highly recommend getting one to use as a tool. Now on to my little project. I had these collar bolts which worked out great as shackle bolts, I drilled into the head of the bolt and welded a rod at the ends, now the radius arm serves two purposes, arm and spring shackle bolt, lastly I will fasten the arms to the body with aluminum spacer and hex set screw. Thanks for looking and hope enjoy the project :)

Thank you Al, Holly the manufacturer of carburetors were one of the first tether car builders back in the day, which caught me by surprise because I worked around Holly products for decades and never knew this,learn something everyday. Here is an example of a Holly, I love these little gems to death!
