Found after 19 years....

Post by bobjeffreson »

19 years after first seeing this car, I tracked it down last week. It's not a true Gilmer.....internals are home made, however I can at least keep track of it as I negotiate a price.
A rare find in Sydney Australia I reckon.

Hey Bob,
That is a Gilmer body. The wheels also look to be the same as Gilmer used.
I think he would sell you a body for around $500.

Hey Funky,
The car is in terrific shape considering it was put together nearly 20 years ago by a 14 year old boy who fell in love with Jan's midgets. He is trying to find all the original letters and paperwork that went between him and Jan. All contact was done by letter back then.....way before the ease of the internet. He said that Jan was a tremendous help in all the dealings.
If it were possible to get all the missing original parts to restore the car properly, I'd be in heaven.
As I said, I wrote to Jan ages ago and have had nothing back. Does anyone know if he still carries any of the gear I need, or....and this will get a giggle I'm sure..... does anyone have any of the parts sitting around in their sheds , they wish to dispose of ?... OK OK stop sniggering...was just a thought!

Bob, glad to hear you got it finally! Your collection sure has grown the past year! :) Good finds on your end.

Jan does still have parts and such, but they only want to sell complete cars? I tried to get some parts to make one of the static displays operational and they would not sell me the parts to do so. They told me that only complete cars are available.

Mike,
Thanks for that update. I'll have to put some of my 1/4 scale sprintcar running gear in the car.
Can you give me the original wheelbase and track of the Gilmer midgets.
