Rebuilding a Zenoah G2D 23 motor but......

Post by PTModIT »

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I went looking through the parts box I found 2 brand new 1148 cylinder heads in their boxes.Upon looking at the number of the cylinder head in the boxes it says 1140 and I think a little marking beside it. Shouldn't the head say 1148 on it.If they are 1148 heads will they work on the 1140 crankcase.I do see 1 difference on the ones in the boxes to the one removed from the motor. Thanks.

Yes an 1148 cylinder should say 1148 on the cylinder. A 1140 cylinder will say 1140 on it. The 1148 will work on an 1140 crank case. The 1148 cylinder has better porting and will give a little better performance.

I am not quite sure. Finding info on the G2D is not the easiest thing. Especially finding info on the different versions. I got most of my info from going into forums for Gopeds and searching through old posts. Everyone talks about the 2HP version but no one ever says what the difference is from the standard G2D. Other than Raco's Engine Repair guide I have never been able to get a repair or user manual for the Zenoah G2D.
I recently replaced a 1140 cylinder and piston with a 1148 cylinder and piston. The response of the engine seemed much quicker and more powerful. The stock 1140 seemed to match the sound of a weed whacker engine.... which it was.........

Sorry to report,He doesn't remember if the heads were anything special.I asked him if he used the 1148 cans and put the 1140 in the boxes ,He ddn't remember. I don't blame him it was 20yrs. ago. I'am going to use one anyway only because if it was a 1148 can then it would be marked as such. Thanks.
