I dont know how it worked but raco did this on the original indy car prototype to get it to clear under the body. I think they even just used copper plumbing to make the intake. I know it ran because there are pictures of it running on a track. It was also just a short 90deg. I would bet it would work.

My original Terry Bennett built Bullet sprintcar needed the carb turned around 180 degrees to facilitate an easier throttle/ brake linkage to the servo. Terry made replacement aluminium blocks that were 1 inch long. It worked a treat and gave increases performance. We kept the performance part quiet !

Here's my carb relocation solution. It looks a little ugly now, but I'll end up coating it to look like carbon fiber.

Here's the intake manifold painted with fake carbon fiber using the DIY hydrocoating kit at home. I mention how to do that in the tips section of the forum.
