has anyone used a Go Kart engine?

Post by merlinsteve »

Hi again
I was talking to a friend today and asked if i could borrow some go kart wheels so that i can CAD them up.
I was telling them about what i planned to do and they told me they had a couple of Kt100J Go kart motors left over from when their oldest son was racing. they then said I could have them. What a score! or is it???
Has anyone used such a motor for a 1/4?
was it successful or did it end n tears.
with about 12 Hp available, i don't know that i will need a gear box unless i want to get stupid acceleration or top speed. I will however need to run a reverse gearbox and diffs.
Any info/ advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Steve

Go for it mate, those sort of things are like basketball size nuggets. size could be a slight concern depending on what your building.
I doing a 1/4 ish scale model T C cab with a pocket bike engine but the van body will hide the engine

A guy named JariV made a huge home made buggy with a kart powerplant.
I have a Yamaha 100cc here, but it has no clutch. My mates went to Rotax 125cc battery start, water cooled motors in the speedway midgets, so stop/start was possible on the track.
