Just when I thought it was ready to drop on the road....AAAARRRGHHH!!!!!
I thought there was an air leak in the inlet manifold...so I made a new one that attached via hose clamps....
Damn motor still fades away at High RPM.
I've been through ignition (all OK)
Fuel mix (all OK)
Plug(s) (all OK)
Took off the carb...the pulse pipe had blocked the channel to the carb at the plastic spacer, so I carved a slot to get the pulse signals to the carb...still fades away.
Put a new carb kit through it.
Adjusted the lever for the needle where the diaphragm pulses it open/closed
re-did the needle settings.
This motor (most probably) was never designed to do stupid RPMS....it still fades away when at WOT
I am going to remove the motor, strip it, and make a Mk IV inlet manifold (a bolt-on one)
and then we'll see..... this isn't doing good things for my blood pressure!
I had a look through a box of 2nd hand carbs, but none were suitable for me. Off to the outdoor equipment fellas to see what's in their junk piles of carbs.
On the best run, I got 18,000RPM...but it was short lived. I'm sure I just can't get the fuel delivery I need at these RPM's.

God, I hate obstacles.

On a positive note, I am thinking (always) "no problems, only solutions".

The carb is a Walbro WT 202..only one fuel line, and that's new.
I don't have a primer bulb, or return line, bro.

I got PM from Ezlovin, and to pressurise the tank from the pipe I am not sure will work, either. There's diaphragm flaps letting the fuel flow from a pulse signal from the crankcase. All I can do is make a (better again) inlet manifold set up, and maybe increase the dia of the pulse tube. The carb lives 2" further away from the block than the manufacturers intended.
I have narrowed it down to:
> I still have an air leak (hence dreaming up a manifold)
> Unable to pump enough fuel when it's asked for.
Might have to talk to the boat guys....I know Zen makes a pulse powered water pump to cool heads...maybe I can utilise this for fuel?

Hey Guys,

long time no talk, eh.

I have officially "hung up the R/C boots".

Drag car is in moth balls, wing's off, and it's on the high shelf for that "rainy day".

I'm glad to have met you guys, and have a chat about things we all share and like; and I'm sure you all have made me richer in experience. Thanks for that.

So, it's not goodbye; rather, I'll drop in from time to time, but I have 1:1 project these days taking my attention away.
I figured 13 years of my life making this car (obsessed, aren't I?)
was enough....so now i can say..."yeah, I made that"

.....and that's something that no-one can take away.

Best wishes to you all in your creative endeavours, and "keep the dream alive" as Lawsy would say. (have to be Aussie to get that, I suppose)

So the next (hopefully less than) 13 years will be spent creating a 1937 Dodge D5 Hot Rod that me & my kids can drive 'round in. (ahh, all good fun)

Going back to the ol' auto trade roots, I suppose.

Cheers, and thanks for all the many good times guys. :cya:

Hi,

Just letting u know I pulled all my vids off youtube.
Got sick&tired of waiting for an ad about Range Rovers'n'stuff before I get to watch what I wanted to in the 1st place. So I pulled 'em.
Photos should still remain, though.

So here's what I'm doing now.

Image

1937 Dodge D5 sedan, 5.0Ltr injected GM engine, Jaguar (1983) front & rear suspension, all steel original body & frame. Lots of work, and the regulations are a real minefield right now. Power windows, reverse camera, bluetooth, etc. All the mod-cons inside, but looks like great grandpa's car outside.

Cheers guys!

Hello everyone,
Well, time sure does fly. I am astounded that my last post was SOOO long ago - sorry about that!!

I put some of my vids back up on the 'tube, so I'll re-post them here.

I still own the car, it's just on the shelf for the day when I finish mucking about with my 1:1 car. (which I'll shed a little light on later).

Cheers Muddy.

A little more on the progress.... moving at a glacial pace... but all those little "behind the scenes" jobs are being done too.
It will make assembly sooo much easier.

Picked up a radiator from a '35 Plymouth... close, but needs to be massaged to fit the grille shell.
Can't believe how good condition it's in. Was last re-cored in Feb 1953. After a soak in a citric acid bath to clean the insides, I discovered its brass tanks were copper coated. lost some copper in the acid, but I thought, "there's no way you could do this today for under 2 grand". So have we progressed? Answer is NO..
