The birth of "Evil". The other electric Funny car.

Post by Juiced Drag Racing »

Several months ago we started a build of a prototype 1/4 scale funny car using all new parts and
very little RC equipment in the power train. The final production will be two cars, one for Tammy and one for me.
These are built for speed, with some realism thrown in to keep them "Honest".
It will not be anything like the seriously cool RC Plymouth, but are meant just for really fun drag racing.

Hers will be metallic blue ( Speed Demon) and mine will be metal flake Orange ( Orange Crush)

Thanks to a really crappy winter, we have only gotten the prototype completed.
We were hoping to have both done by now.

Since we have WAY too much torque than we need, and since the car is a bear to drive,
it was decided to throw a coat of primer, some appropriate Skull and Cross bones
( I am Retired NAVY) call it "Evil" and do the testing with some fun to boot.

It is a Molly tube frame, large LifePo4 Batteries, Kart wheels/tires, disk brakes and a 4.5HP (at least) Brushed motor.
The controller can be computer programmed for any type of track condition.

Today was the first time the car has made it to a real track. Before now all we were able
to do between the rain and snow was try to get it to stick.
Much to my neighbors amusement, many donuts were done out front of our home.

Florence Bound:
First off, we want to thank Ted Allred at the Florence Track for helping us out, putting up with our ill handling car,
and trying his best to keep the track sticky in some of the worst of pollen we have seen in years.

Image

The car lived up to is nick name. Even with a couple of good straight passes, they were on the edge of traction.
Most of the passes were not worth timing as I was concentrating on going straight, but it was all good as we
remedied several small issues you get from a car with this much HP and little traction. We will be getting some traction compound
or different tires, gear changes and a few other things before the next event so we can maximize the speed information.

Sorry Mike ( Mike Ogle, not OCD Mike? :) :) ) No Video yet,
I will bring the popcorn when we have video of some real passes! ;)

More later!

Great job , just the wiring in that monster makes it live up to its name. I'm afraid foam tires are the only way to go, we have to many rpms off the line for hard rubber slicks. Car looks great, did you run the wheelie king.

Very nice looking car Juiced, Looks like the hard work payed off. Foam tires do have great traction, But are much lighter, Less rotating mass. The F/C well stick to the track better but The car will be a Speed Freak in the process. That's what we are looking for isn't it, So Keep it straight and off it's top. Great Looking F/C JDR.

Thanks for the comments everyone!

Slacker?...Yup, that is me!!

Too busy trying to drive the thing to get Vids.

We have some good ideas to tame the car down, but still keep it fast.

Some times you have to slow down to go fast!!!!

Yes, it is a Currie 900 watt motor. A lot of torque but not much RPM.
