Yankee Porsche

Post by Mike Casey »

I have had this one for a long time, but pulled it out to take a look at her and dust it off. This one has working front and rear lights including working turn signals, a horn, cooling fan and even a gyro. Really cool car!! I bought it from germany maybe 6+ years ago.

my plan has always been to clean up the electronics mess. Keep it there, just clean it up. (it even has a gyro?!?! :)) and clean the glue off the tub from the foam insulation that was on it. One day I may get to it. This is how far behind I am on my projects...

I've put a gyro in one of my 1/5 buggies in the past and it worked surprisingly well going off-road. I'm sure with some "drift tires", it'll help the Porsche elegantly drift around the corners.

The only place this baby is drifting to, is back over to its shelf :D (I know, go ahead and start bagging on me for not having the balls to drive these things...)

I think they use them to correct erratic steering. So if you over compensate around a curve it will fix it so you less likely spin out?

Exactly what Mike said. HPI sells a device called the D-box (gyro with a fancy name). It's aimed for electric 1/10 scale on-road drifting when equipped with the HPI drift tires. So when entering a corner at an aggressive angle with speed, the device will counter-steer to stop you from spinning out (just like countering the torque spin by the tail rotor on a heli). There is a youtube video from HPI regarding the device.

Now the important questions is... when can one score a rear spoiler like that? It gives the Porsche character... and my yet to be built 964 C4/turbo is in need of some character building.

Yankee offered that spoiler in lexan. This spoiler just happens to be fiberglass though. Just sold the spare one I had with a new body...

one of the nicest 911 from Yankee!
the rear lexan spolier cut like a real is a really good idea!
Turbogolf, sunday i went to the Yankee factory, and i will have a front and rear "racing " spoiler in lexan, so if you 're really not in a hurry it would be possible to have a fiberglass one.
i will aslo have a strange 911 lexan body to paint and it has a different nose that is longer than the Yankee racing one.... (it's from Strosek)
Mike....giro must be fun to drive!
Stef

Mike, i'm sure you know this but never put fuel on this composite chassis!!! (it's impax)
or it will break!

Hi Stef, fiberglass spoiler would be awesome and I'm in no hurry. I have to build a chassis and drive-train before anything else becomes relevant.... and unlike Frank, I work pretty slow

Mike,

That is an amazing car. I am a huge Porsche nut and that is one of the smoothest looking Yankees I have seen.

thanks for the fine comments guys. The problem with having so many cars is that sometimes you forget to appreciate what you have. Dont get me wrong, I love all these cars very much, but sometimes you forget what you have. :D Just not enough time in the day to enjoy everything it has to bring.
