Gilmer midgets

Post by Mike Casey »

These dudes are on loan. I have never seen a gilmer in person before, just pictures. I never really appreciated them until i saw these today. Even though they are simple in design, they are flawless in construction. I am even worried about handling them. Every part is precision fit. These are two amazing machines....

Mr Casey,
You're a very lucky man! One day I'll see one of those in person.

Bob, i am very lucky. My friend sent these to me so we can make a video on them. I am very lucky to have them right now. They will get a lot of my attention during their visit.

Insane... I am going to put a section up on the gilmer cars. They were built primarily in the 80's and are a pretty rare car... well i guess like most 1/4 scale. :D

Mike, every time I see one of these come up on eBay (two recently), the listing says complete engies but non-running. What's the story with that? Do they start? I must admit they are cool looking cars.

good question.... I was told they are expired engines. I know... kinda vauge. But I believe that they are sample engies with flaws that make them un runable.

If i did that kinda stuff, i would never had these in my possesion. It takes a great amount of trust to let someone play with your goodies... hmmm, that sounded wierd.

Hello All,

I was bidding on those car's & asked the same question & this was the answer I received..
Q: The Kawasaki engine for this static model does not have internal working parts - hence non running. If you are absolutely looking for a new car with a working engine and radio control components, this would be a "new build" and of course higher price. You should call my father at the factory (320) 543-2395 if you want to discuss.
Thanks for the inquiry - Preston Gilmer

Hope this helps....

Hello Guys,

Jan Gilmer does not have a website. He says that he's not into computers. Jan builds every midget in his basement (factory). He's a one man shop. The white midget that was on Ebay has an incomplete engine. Jan has no more engines, so he used parts. The recoil starter assembly and the head. He made it look like a running midget and it also has no running gear. These midgets are like potato chips, you just can't have one
