Usable and exotic engines list
Usable and exotic engines list
Hello,
I wanted to open this thread as there are many separate discussions here about different type of engines. I am proposing that we gather the list here.
Here is the categorization I am proposing:

My list:
Engines I have used to power an RC:
- Maxter MX-A go-kart 100cc
- all the usual Zenoah/CY 1-cyl basic 2-stroke engines
- 37,7cc Chung Yang type home developed 2-stroke reed engine
- RCS 100cc twin 2-stroke
(nitro engines):
- OS FF-320 Pegasus fourstroke (in an airplane)
- Laser 160 V2 vee-two fourstroke (in an airplane)
- OS Supercharged 20cc fourstroke (in a truggy)
Engines I have as static now:
- few Zen/CY (no need)
- CY based 37,7cc (no need)
Engines of interest:
- new Roto Motor flat four fourstroke
- 10-30hp gasoline wankel engines (like the Graupner ad in for sale -section)
- Conley V8 and all other exotic ones like flat sixes, V12, V6, inline engines
- with exotic engines I don't care if it's gas or nitro

Addition:
Engines of interest:
- radial engines
(I had a Saito 90R3 but I sold it because it was so underpowered to it's weight)

Re: Usable and exotic engines list
One engine that would be very interesting to convert to RC:
Sachs Dolmar KMS-4 wankel-engined chainsaw, 58cc. Google.

Roto Motor 170FS
http://www.rotomotor.cz/rotomotor/en/default.html
170cc gasoline flat four 4-stroke. Not yet in commercial production, they are testing the first batch now. I gotta get me one of those if the price is right.

Re: Usable and exotic engines list
Interesting engine. Claimed 5 HP?
Re: Usable and exotic engines list
Yes, that is obvious.
If I look at that engine from technical and engine user perspective then it's nitro (=expensive fuel), 5HP (actually underpowered to basic Zenoahs), no spare parts availability at all, wankel's engine typical hunger for fuel and high rpm's without low end torque.
So for the asking price (around 2900USD) this is an engine for a collector, not for an engine user. I buy engines with full intention to use them.
So this is definitely not for me. Of course the engine is exotic and that will also raise the interest in me but not that much. In my books that engine would be 900-1000USD worth, not more. I'm the wrong guy for your engine. I hope you will find a buyer for it.

I managed to buy a Sachs Dolmar KMS4 wankel chainsaw. I quess I need to start a new project

you're right sorry, i thought you were talking about the twins....dtw wrote:Gizmo don't do the OHC single though.
my bad.....
Re: Usable and exotic engines list
dtw;
who actually made that DOHC single? In what size?
There are alternatives nowadays if you want a four stroke but they lack punch drastically. They are more or less dogs to a person with performance orientated mind.
