Then I started on the engine machining to see if I will be able to fit the hood.

metal working is very another class in car models... very impressive, don't want to paint it to hide this beautiful work!

Thanks eightman, that seems to be the consensus at the shows. Leave it in metal, maybe a clearcoat.

Some of the latest attempts.
I originally copied the Ford 9", but since hypoid gearsets are not readily available in the size I needed, I made a pattern with the pinion on the centerline so I could use the angle grinder gears. I had made axles from Chevy intake valves, but the stems aren't long enough to reach the center of the third member. I EDM'd a hole in the stem and inserted a 1/4" allen shaft. Then I made an electrode to create the hex hole in the gear carrier.

Then I started thinking about brakes and made patterns of old single piston GM calipers. They cast alright, but I'm thinking Wildwoods, or SSBC's would be better. We shall see.

I machined the calipers, then started on rotors. This was an experiment to see if I could cast iron rotors with a steel center. These are the first two, they have flaws, but after annealing I was able to machine to rough shape.
The final surfacing will need to be done mounted. In the background are the cores for the internal fins.

I'm an auto mechanic 40 years, I've seen my share of rotors, they look fantastic even in its rough form. For me nothing dresses up a build like realistic rotors. still a lot of meat on them lol

Thanks Emilio. I made the centers from 1.875 expansion plugs that I welded a flange on. I'm having fun with this so I made a better pattern and will cast them again to use up my cores.
