Aston Martin, project.

Post by Vass »

I'm back with new project.

I'll try an Aston Martin, 1/4 scale. Firstly, the body, from 2mm lexan on vacuum mold.

Length:112cm , Width:540mm , Wheelbase: 650mm.

I took a bburago 1/18 AM, as a model. One week later and hundreds calculations and patterns i'm here.
This project is with the close collaboration of my son Tassos.

That looks great! I'm helping with a 1/8 scale build. but my dream is a 1/4 scale monster truck build. You have raised the bar. well done.

wow i haven't seen this post/
i knew you build fantastic chassis, now you're on the way for a monument body of 1:4 scale!
you forget to say your pattern were hand cut, no CNC isn't it! Very long job and i think it will be nice!
you plan to form Lexan on this mould or you will do a resin mold...?

Thanks Stef,

.... hand made, of course.

I would like to form lexan ( 2mm ? ) but i'm afraid for the indents, largely in
mask and rear. I have 5mm deep, the mask and i dont know if i could take out lexan from mold.

forming machine will take mold... and maybe the body with it :(
maybe i can tell you just to keep a "45° shape" (red) at top of your indent or "hole"
Image
i'm sure this will be ok 5mm for 250mm high mold.

A little about AM project.

- Engine : R 460 http://www.chungyang.com.tw/en/product01-r460.html
in the spirit of muscle cars.Low cost engine, without special pipes, cylinders and with bass sound as befitting to AM.

- Chassis : aluminum + stee tube. Light weight and strong.

- brakes : 4 disc rotors, hydraulic callipers

-tyres : BRP ,http://www.bishopracingproducts.com/ , maybe with home made alouminum rims

- transmission : 2 belts or chains and self lock diff

-suspension : double arms for each wheel, adjustable absorbs

My aim is a balanced, super car.

i like it !
just still wondering how you will do you vaccumforming mold...
several materials together don't like heat, and i don't like cracks... :|
i'm sure you will find a solution! (longer but better is to make negative mold then final mold)
