The Black Max Funny Car

My third funny car, with this special carbon-fiber body built by Jeff Schmidt. I just painted the edges and seams a dark purplish-black, keeping the main panels of the body plain carbon fiber. I still have this body downstairs.

23cc Solo Engine by Jeff Devlin of SEI. A nice little car.

Because a few people wanted to buy it.
But it's at this weird age where the style's not quite old enough to be a "Nostalgia" car, and not contemporary enough to be a modern, small-cab funny car..

That was the "middle" chassis under that one.

Similar sheetmetal construction, but two-belts like John Foster's and Guy Hilleary's cars. The one I'm using now is gear primary drive to the halfshaft, then belt to the rear axle.

Wrecked it at Lake Perris, CA... radio interference... with the second blue and white Olds Cutlass body on it that day.

(I remember it being in a "Wild Hobbies" video, and I think it was in that Car Action DVD, "RC Xplosion" too... )

Does this old magazine article ring a bell??

I have many old mags from way back when.. This one was from a mag that just fell apart in our old basement...

Wow... I totally forgot about that. This was written up by my friend Chris Chianelli, who recently passed away. I did his TV show on DIY Network a few times.

I have been meaning to ask about Chris. I saw a tribute to him in a RC mag months ago. I was shocked to hear he was gone. He was a true RC fanatic! Looked like he was a good guy. Were you guys close mike??

Stoneyberk,
By chance do you have the magazine with the story on the Edelbrock Delara sprintcar. It's from circa 1989/90, I'm thinking. I had it, but cannot put my hands on it. A new forum member cadguy, has just bought a Delara and would like as much info as possible.

Mike,

Can you help me? I have a New Era F/C body that is uncut for the wheels and windows. Is there a pattern for cutting these out? can I get a pattern from yours? Too. any idea where I can get graphics (Lights, etc) for this. I believe it's a Olds? Thanks Mike.

Robert

Sure thing! I'll trace a front and rear wheel cutout, and see if I have another set of Olds headlight stickers downstairs in the decal box.

(I digitally photographed the headlights of Cruz Pedregon's McDonalds Olds... I have its hood hanging on the wall.)

PM me your mailing address.
