Gilmer gearbox and engine project

Hey folks, well after almost 8 months in the new house, trip to Europe and getting the house in order I'm finally getting to finishing up my new work shop/garage/man-cave. Still a lot of work to do like finish installing the insulation, paint the floor and add flake then mushroom boards on the walls. The guy in the middle in the photo is my cool father R.I.P

But this morning I had a break in the action as it is raining so I could hold off on working in the vegetable garden and manicuring 3 acres of property, I work more now retired then when I was working for a living, but I wouldn't trade it for the world.

This morning I will start up the Gilmer project again and hope to finish and make a display case. Hope you enjoy.

I have my father's picture on a wall too, it's a picture of him when he was in the navy. He was a cool fellow, I've missed him every day since his time was up 8 years ago.

Hey folks, I think this is relevant to this thread. If no one has ever made a google book or heard of it, I just received my book today which is a test run to see the quality of Google's product. I must say it is very well made. Here is my hard cover book that documents this very project. I will be making many more of all things 1/4 scale for my private library, I have tons and tons of content and photos collected over the years. Hope you enjoy.

Well I put the last touches on the Gilmer as I can't progress any further without a custom axle hub to support a brake caliper, there is a cnc shop in NJ that is willing to see what I have in mind and thinks they can make one, so until then I just put it all together and display it. What I'm mostly pleased with this whole project was, I didn't sacrifice the body at all with modified cuts which was my main goal from the beginning.

Hey folks, I got these custom made louvers for the Gilmer from Rcgarage aka Micheal. I refuse to make cuts and holes on this body so I will install them with thin double sided tape from 3M that is also easy to remove, I painted the louvers royal blue and mocked them up for now, I think the paint is almost an exact match.

They look good in blue. I think it makes the Gilmer complete.
Mounted with small screws it would look perfect.

Thank you Michael and Anthony, Anthony the louvers came as you see them from rcgarage, all I did was paint and mount, I love them.

I made a few adjustments, I removed that huge air filter and removed that huge heat sink which gave me no access to the carburator and to close to the body for comfort. I will try and locate a regular round cylinder head cap with a much lower profile, I posted a photo without the heat sink and with the body mounted, there will be plenty of breathing room. Also made an extension exhust manifold which I'll have to work somthing up to bring the exhust out without touching the body.

On the cosmetic side, I had this pack of tiny screws with nuts and washers, this screw kit is for eye glasses repair. They make a perfect scale look for certain things on 1/4 scales mine being the steering wheel. I originally purchased this screw kit for the rear windshield on my Daytona coupe which sadly no longer own. Anyway here's some more photos hope you enjoy.

Emilio: You've jogged my memory,I'd forgotten about those Daytona Coupe bodies. I have one in storage, it must have been there for 9 or 10 years! I don't suppose many of these bodies were made. I can't recall ever seeing one finished.

Kaye has it been 10 years already?? We all purchased them around the same time, man time flies, I was making a Dytona chassis from a cut up WCM frame then modify to fit my conley engine, it had nice rick wheels also, sadly sold everything for my Harley, I'll dig up the photos.

For folks following this thread thank you, and for the folks who are stuck with not knowing how to finish a " Gilmer you finish model" I hope this helped, here is a photo I forgot to add, the fuel tank, it can be removed by just removing the seat if need be. More to come when I start on the hydrolic brake system. Hope you enjoy the project.
