A historic article about 1/4 scale drag racing. The pdf is too large to host here on QSL so I've uploaded it to Dropbox. The attached image is of the first page only. Here's the link to the full article:

Enjoy,

RC Garage: I too would love to make a 1/4 scale model dragster. It would be nice if I could find someone near me (Toronto) with the same interest.

I'd like to see pictures of your model dragster if you can find them. There's something hugely appealing about dragsters; the full on get as much power down on the pavement .... and it's all over in a few glorious seconds! There's nothing like drag racing.

Hi Kaye,

I am based in Berlin/Germany. It is sad but that is quite far from Toronto.

I do not want to build a dragster by scratch. I have an old Pacesetter tubeframe, a Silver Dollar and a V8 Luther engine and I will try to assemble them.
Will post some Pictures in this Forum from time to time.

Michael

Thanks for the link. You have quite a collection there! Your scratch built top fuel dragster looks to be very well constructed. You must have put a lot of hours into building it. The fiber glass / balsa core body and canopy idea has got me thinking of using this technique on one of my projects.

Quick questions.

1. What is the overall length of the dragster?
2. What kind of engine powers the dragster?

Thanks,
Kaye

I'm so pleased with this news. It just goes to show how important it is for the 'vintage 1/4 scale community' to stick together and share info amongst ourselves.

I'm absolutely fascinated with vintage 1/4 scale model cars.

Gosh, this will be quite a project. I'm looking forward to seeing it. I hope you don't mind me saying this, but I think you're one of the very few that have managed to turn the hobby into an art form. It's the meticulous attention to detail and presentation of the finished piece that elevates your work to this level.

My other interest is bonsai; attention to detail and presentation is especially important in this field. I am however after many years of practice still a novice bonsai, and model car builder!

Hi Kaye, The body is sheet metal. The canopy and the side inlets as well as the mono wing is balsa and fiberglass. The length is around 9' with the wheelie bar. The engine is a Zenoah G62 and the Raco gearbox. Welding is not my forte. I used the welding wire that came with the welder. It was garbage, As were the welds. You would need to see it in person. LOL. I was going to build another frame because this was just a mock up to fit everything. I did the Avro Arrow theme. Thanks.
