Pacesetter Outlaw sprint car tear down and restoration.
Pacesetter Outlaw sprint car tear down and restoration.
Hey folks, just won this Pacesetter sprint on ebay, plan is to tear it down and do a resto. I started with the gearbox which wasn't smooth when I spun the axle, this was due to very old gear oil and dried up debris build up in between the gears causing a tight mesh. On top of the gearbox housing is stamped #138, don't know why?
Took the rear apart Cleaned all components, oiled and back together. Hope you enjoy the project as it moves along.

Using a Webra T460 on this project along with a new clutch, flywheel and engine mounts. The .60 nitro engines in my opinion are more than enough, even jeff Schmidt thought so. This engine has a timing belt and overhead cam and it's a very rare engine.

Moteur = choix parfait!

Thanks Kaye,
The motor mounts have been drilled and tapped and everything secured with locktite, button heads and lock washers. Tore down the whole chassis, just need to scrub everything down and replace all new hardware. The paint theme will be black with gold numbers and gold pacesetter script across the hood area with red trim around numbers and writing. Hope you enjoy this project

Just a tiny update on this pacesetter. I took the original muffler and sculpt it into a baffle, this .60 engine might not break any land speed records but it may sound like it could after everything is fitted I will clean and polish.
Right now juggling 4 projects at once and keeping up with yard work. Hope you enjoy.

Back on the pacesetter, two things had to be fixed, one being to remove the blue paint from the engine and two, an exhaust system that looked good and functioned.Although there will be only one pipe connected to the header, both pipes will exit the exhaust, the second pipe will act as the exhaust pressure line and will be shortened when I install the fitting.
This is the 3rd concept I had and will stick with this one. Hope you enjoy this project .

Nice.
I'm sure is was a lot of work to paint the engine / and a lot of work to 'un-paint' the engine!

Thank you Kaye and Mike.
After all these years I still don't have the option to choose "Get emails when someone posts" on mine or any thread?

There used to be that little check box where you either placed or didn't place the check when creating or responding to a post, now it's gone...WHY?
Re: Pacesetter Outlaw sprint car tear down and restoration.
Finished the exhaust this afternoon, didn't want to mig it together as this was way to hot for a tiny area and would have changed the color of the pipes, instead I made 3 sleeves, the 2 outer are spacers and the center is the exhaust pass over for the exhaust pressure line.
Now I can move on getting it cleaned, polished and back together . Hope you enjoy
