Daytona Coupe 1/4 scale project.
Daytona Coupe 1/4 scale project.
Hey folks, posting my Daytona coupe project here on QSL as it is more a documented archive far more superior to Facebook. The goal here is to fabricate a chassis more or less a hybrid, some old school original mixed in with new designs gathered off the internet. The rear is a solid mounted QC rear made by QRS which compliments the QRS body keeping it, I like to think of as a "matching number car". The front suspension is the design of Jan Gilmers Midgets, very simple and effective and acts as independent suspension. I could easily go the leaf spring with lower control arms down the road but that's a lot of work for the moment. The chassis will also have the front extension to support an open and close hood but I'm leaving the body uncut at this time. The engine will be a GD Zenoah. I'm posting photos of the project start to finish, the welds are dirty but will clean up nice ready for powder coating. Waiting on the insulators for the front axle which will be here tomorrow. Till then hope you enjoy the project.

This is the chassis I'm copying off the internet more or less, I will be adding more cross bars but not until I get the engine situated.

Re: Daytona Coupe project slight return.
Emilio:
It's such a pleasure seeing this model take shape.
Thank you for taking the time and effort to post, document, and share your Daytona Coupe project on QSL. As you so rightly point out, the website is a far better medium than facebook for project documenting / archiving.

Great job Emilio, really taking shape!
Re: Daytona Coupe 1/4 scale project.
Thanks everyone, I received the insulators for the front axle, now I'm trying to figure out a bulkhead design?
Re: Daytona Coupe 1/4 scale project.
Hey folks, just a mini update, while I'm fabricating a bulkhead for the front axle, I want to share the fuel inlet which I think will add to the detail of this racer. Hope you enjoy.
Re: Daytona Coupe 1/4 scale project.
I like it!
Re: Daytona Coupe 1/4 scale project.
Thanks Kaye. Pretty much caught up on the chassis and just have to add additional cross bars and front extension for the hood support bar but as I mentioned not until I get an engine mounted. Here are some photos of the car resting on it's own. Next I'll prep the body for paint, thinking of the red number 59 coupe or the traditional blue, maybe a coin toss will decide, I love both themes. Anyway hope you enjoy
Re: Daytona Coupe 1/4 scale project.
She's on her way now!
Re: Daytona Coupe 1/4 scale project.
Thanks Kaye, I kept the front end slightly high which will drop to a much more aggressive profile when the engine and clutch housing are installed, these rubber insulators are very strong.I would like to keep the door open for a Conley engine one day so I may not rush for a zenoah?

Re: Daytona Coupe 1/4 scale project.
Thanks Mike, the LRU wheels to me seemed like they got better looking over time like fine wine. I'm still waiting on the engine to arrive which should be here in a few days, also going to install the roto starter and remove the pull start.
The tie rod tube and tie rod ends are complete along with the steering servo. Soon as the engine is mounted I could finish the chassis and powder coat or paint, then onto the body work. Hope everyone enjoys the project
