Re: F1 Engine
Mike I think I can build a fuselage area for this engine which will be the wood buck frame but no nose, you would need to figure that out. Let me get it started and will send pics. No charge just pay for shipping if you want it. At the least you could wrap it in aluminum, paint and decal and convert it to a starter box?

Re: F1 Engine
Almost finished, Mike you could see here the signficant difference in size, the one on the left is between 1/5 and 1/4, the one on the right 1/3, the back end is 9" wide 6" high. This seems about right. Let me know?

Re: F1 Engine
Are you going to hand do or use English wheel? I have seriously thought about getting one.

Re: F1 Engine
Mike at this point I'm in prototype stage, I think if you are going to make it a starter box, 28 or 26 gauge aluminum could be shaped by hand. Before I buy an English wheel I'm looking for class's in metal shaping and fabrication this winter, I think it will be a valuable tool. Mike here are some photos on what will be needed to finish the complete body. For lack of better words, the body portion at the moment is without a cockpit cowl and windscreen. I'm going to try and make one out of wood and possibly lay fiberglass or aluminum? It is a crucial body part. Next is the dash and seat, very easy to fabricate and I'm showing where they get positioned. We have been getting very high humidity these past few weeks, so high that this morning the wood buck twisted popping some of the cross members out, but the buck is finished. Also, don't feel out of place or taboo using the wood buck as the main body structure, the Morgan cars have been built with wood on metal chassis for generations. In fact this concept is a lot safer than the magnesium chassis that killed a few Grand prix drivers in the 60s, Honda being one. Mike PM your mailing address.

Re: F1 Engine
Mike I'm sending your wood buck out this afternoon. But while I'm here, I started on the cockpit cowl on my static 1/5 scale model. A lot of hours and sanding and still not finished. Here's how I did it. I scaled up the 1/12 scale lotus on to a sheet of wood and went to town. The choice is yours. I hope the buck works out for you.
Re: F1 Engine
Mike, not telling you how to do your car but, if the body meets your satisfaction, don't kill yourself on making the cowl for the cockpit area. I found during research on this car that there wee 2 types, one with formed glass on top of formed aluminum and one with just formed glass or Plexiglas, Plexiglas much less involving on fabricating and shows the back side of the instrument panel which shows a more intricate model. On your buck just add 2 cross members and dashboard then run the aluminum panels all the way up, the windscreen will add the profile look the lotus 49 is known for. Just my opinion. This has to be the most sexiest car in racing.

Real nice!!
Re: F1 Engine
Mike I'm Glade it worked out, you have a true 1/3 scale and not a stretched out version .You also have the only 1/3 scale lotus 49 off the drawing board. I'm working on the nose section soon and will send that to you when it's done, but when is the question? Wether you use this actual piece or use it as a stepping stone, this will look absolutely insane with the right size go cart wheels and tires. You have a one of a kind Mike.
