1/4 scale Lotus 49 Jim Clark version
Re: 1/4 scale Lotus 49 Jim Clark version
I think I'm going to get my own 3D printer and give it a shot, looking at the Creality CR10S, it has nice reviews.
Re: 1/4 scale Lotus 49 Jim Clark version
I went with the Creality3D CR-10S Pro 3D instead, should have it in 3 to 7 days, I plan on making 1/4 scale classic bodies. It has a pretty big table 300mm X 300mm X400mm. The 3D company that was to make my Lotus 49 nose cone with decent filament wanted 400.00 plus. Thanks but I'll make my own. I'll post the update soon.

These printers can be finicky, but you will have a lot of fun. I use an old enclosed production grade one that I modified.

Re: 1/4 scale Lotus 49 Jim Clark version
Hey folks, slowly but surely I will nip this nose cone, as I'm learning certain software and their meanings, I was able to cut the nose section off the rest of the body and working on the dimensions, when I get this close enough I will mirror the part and print. On another note, I might start making the lotus 49 in 1/8 scale with nitro .60 engines on metal chassis.
Re: 1/4 scale Lotus 49 Jim Clark version
Hey folks, as for the creality CR 10S pro 3d printer, it was a major fail for me due to the half ass auto leveling system. Despite all the negative reviews it got on this issue, I went ahead and got it to test for myself as sometimes reviews can be misleading. So, I sent it back and did extensive research and came to the QIDI TECH 3D Printer, Large Size X-Plus Intelligent Industrial Grade 3D Printing, say that 3 times fast. Also got the 3d software Fusion 360 (paid version) to do wheels and tons of other accessories and models. The printer also comes with it's very positive review on their slicing program dedicated to the printer. This printer can also print different filament, carbon fiber, pla, abs, flex for making RC tires and phone cases etc etc, not found on the creality or out of the box? Anyway, when I receive the printer I will post some objects.

Emilio: I like the added range of materials with this new printer. With this and Fusion 360 you'll be rocking!
Re: 1/4 scale Lotus 49 Jim Clark version
Hey folks, I canceled the Amazon order for the QIDI X-Plus and went with the (Original Prusa i3 MK3S 3D printer) direct from their facility which is a very impressive operation, should have it by next Wednesday. I have a few projects going on, Lotus 49, Daytona Coupe and my beautiful Jeron mutt. Can't progress without this printer as it will be printing a lot of related stuff to my projects. Thanks for looking
Re: 1/4 scale Lotus 49 Jim Clark version
Hey folks, as I'm waiting for my printer to arrive I'm getting familiar with the different software I have. I starter the sketch for the Lotus 49 rims, once I get the basic shape and points I will render it in 3D and save as an OBJ and Step file, then export to a Gcode. Will keep the thread updated. Hope you enjoy.
Re: 1/4 scale Lotus 49 Jim Clark version
Keep up the good work!
Re: 1/4 scale Lotus 49 Jim Clark version
Hey folks, made some modifications to the rim and getting closer to the shape of the lotus 49 wheel, going to make the center star shape (lack of better words) then join the 3 pieces together, once done I just have to scale along the Z axis for the front wheel. I will then send the rim to BRP for a foam tire. Hope you enjoy

You're rocking now!
Re: 1/4 scale Lotus 49 Jim Clark version
Thanks Kaye
I'm posting this project also on Facebook. I received my Prusa printer and I must say it is a killer machine. I'm doing test prints at the moment and will soon be ready to print some of the Lotus 49 parts as I finish up the sketches. Hope you enjoy

Re: 1/4 scale Lotus 49 Jim Clark version
Hey folks, very happy to report that the test prints results of my Lotus 49 came out outstanding and will finally get built. Here is a test print of the wind screen cowl at medium quality and less than 1/4 of the size I will be printing. The size of the final cowl will be 11 1/2" x 6 1/2". Next I will test print the nose cone. Hope you enjoy.
Re: 1/4 scale Lotus 49 Jim Clark version
Great result!
Re: 1/4 scale Lotus 49 Jim Clark version
Thanks Kaye. 3D printed out a rapid prototype, this is what 3d printing was called back then and even today. I'm going to use one of two cones on my list, have to make a few changes before it goes 1/4 scale. Hope you enjoy
