Re: 1/4 scale Lotus 49 Jim Clark version
Hey folks, just printed out a test run of the cosworth engine valve covers, I'm going to soften up the sharp edges, smooth out the rough spots and clean out all the holes, then paint in a textured satin black and add real brass and stainless hardware. I think the engine will look super. Also I have not sent back my larger printer yet, I'm hoping to work out a deal with Creality to send me a new one hopefully with less hassles or a refund, I would love to have the 2 printers for different sizes, we'll see?

They are from a model I dissected, I also made my own. I'm printing a front rim @ 4 .25" diameter, I'll post photos when it's done. Here's my updated body parts I'm cleaning up in Fusion.Tweaking my printer and slicer settings before I go BIG!!
Re: 1/4 scale Lotus 49 Jim Clark version
Hey folks, starting out as a noob on 3D printing I'm learning the ins and outs of what it takes to have a successful print, one being the supports, when to use and where to place. I printed out the front rim for the lotus 49 at low poly count and low quality with 0.5% infill and print speed @100 to save material and time, this rim took 11 hours to print. The results are less than average and not impressive at all, but at these settings it was to be expected. The main goal was to see the shape and diameter. Later on things will be neater and polished. I will prefect the rims and print settings before I even consider the body. Please don't judge this as a final product. Hope you enjoy.

It's getting better al the time, better, better, better (cue The Beatles!)
Re: 1/4 scale Lotus 49 Jim Clark version
Did some more test prints this time on my larger 3D printer, the bed size is 300 x 300 x 400 which is plenty of room to do a full 1/4 scale nose cone of my Lotus 49 without cutting it in half. The test print is part of the windscreen cowl in low quality settings to save time, my main objective was to keep the walls thin and increase the wall thickness as needed, some prints I see out there are as thick as a brick wall, not good in my opinion. Hopefully I will have some high quality prints in the not so distant future.
Re: 1/4 scale Lotus 49 Jim Clark version
Hey folks, just want to point out that printing large files takes tremendous amounts of time and hopefully without any hiccups while printing. I want to start on the nose cone for my 1/4 scale static Lotus 49 model. If you notice where I circled the amount of hours to print is 61 hours, that's at it's minimal settings. When I finally print this piece I will then concentrate on the final build with high quality settings to show more promising models. For those who find this build interesting be patient.
Re: 1/4 scale Lotus 49 Jim Clark version
Hey folks, I printed up a test nose cone to see how the shape will end up and how thick the walls will be, I think it's almost ready for a 1/4 scale size print. Keep in mind what I'm showing is a fraction of the size and quality of the final print. all in all I'm happy the way it turned out. Hope you enjoy

Great job!
Re: 1/4 scale Lotus 49 Jim Clark version
Thank you Cal. I'm printing it in 1/4 scale at the moment and it looks great so far, the first section will be ready later on today. Doing it on my smaller printer in parts.
Re: 1/4 scale Lotus 49 Jim Clark version
Hey folks, I decided to print the lotus 49 in parts as this will cause less risk of loosing all the work midway or towards the end and cut down of added supports.I set a nice % infill to give it strength and it is as strong and solid as fiberglass. This is printed in the exact specs for 1/4 scale, and will be my static model. The results came out stunning and can now move forward to complete all the parts. Part 2 of the nose cone will start tonight. Hope you enjoy
