The hood is fiberglass , I simply cut the sides off and used only the center of the hood... the sides are ABS and mechanically bonded to the fiberglass... I don’t suggest using ABS ... all fiberglass is a safer way to go

Hi steve g:
What did you use to bond the ABS to the fiberglass? BTW, the painted result is extremely good!

Re: Next project.... wingless asphalt sprint
I have been doing custom fiberglass parts for show cars and race cars for years ... so what I have learned about bonding ABS to fiberglass is ..... you can’t... haha. The bond needs to be 100% mechanical and aggressive 24 grit grind or rougher is a good idea. The adhesive I have found that works best with ABS is 3M TPO 08239. It’s a tad expensive... the next best thing I found that’s a lot cheaper is JB QUICK.
Your final bodywork on the outside must be seamed and can’t be finished off smooth because fiberglass and ABS have radically different heat transfer.

Wonderful result! Although 1/4 scale rc model cars seemed expensive 'back in the day', over the long run they've turned out to be extremely good value, with some owners enjoying them for 30 years or more.

Re: Next project.... wingless asphalt sprint
Thank you.
All that’s left to do is finish building the engine and a set of wheels and tires.. of course a few details here and there.
Re: Next project.... wingless asphalt sprint
Test fitting the new motor (junk carb) zenoah G26 airplane motor with custom marine crank that allows for a pull start... custom cylinder head and port work on the case.

That's good. Once the projects start to become hard work, it's time to take a break!
