I like it very much! Lots of potential for sure. I just love old 1/4 scale model cars.

I like this sprint car a lot, I have never seen this type of hood and tail before.. it’s new and unpainted. The frame has evidence of hard racing times but it’s well repaired..

I think it’s all WCM.. not sure though. I’m still waiting for another WCM to arrive so I can compare.
This was on eBay a few weeks ago

Nice Sprinters!
I also would to know what kind of chassis that is because of the braces under the top of the roll cage in the front, I don't remember seeing that in the past but it been a long time.
Thanks, Steve sprintdog

So I compared the frame to the black #5 wcm and all the mounting points for the suspension and engine are the same... it’s a home brew frame based on a wcm...
The black #5 car is an excellent example of a well raced but well taken care of race car... the only issue I had was the frame was horribly out of square. So I took it apart and attached friction jacks to put everything where it belongs... other than some cracked powder coat it took it very well, no broken welds.

Steve, u must have been a doctor in a past life. I'll bet that was like resetting a broken leg. Good Job.
Are you racing anything these days ?.....Harold

No I don’t race them.. all my cars are outdated and I think there is only 1 or 2 tracks left in California.
I fix these cars up but leave them with some of their flaws to show some of their history. I also don’t stress paint flaws and errors from assembly.. I think it keeps the character of being a big “toy” from an era that’s long gone.

Not a doctor but I’m a structural tech.. spent many years on a real frame rack

steve g:

I like that you leave the cars with some flaws. Restoration often erases patina on model and full size cars. As you point out, the era of these toy cars is long gone, which is rather sad. The happy thing is that the memory lives on for a while longer with 'us oldies'.

Re: Next projects .. wingless asphalt sprint and all stock WCM

Post by steve g »

So I’m combining these two projects together... here is the all stock WCM frame all done, I had to do some body filler work on the tubes so I went with paint rather than powder coat. Looks good enough for my shelf

So this car will be all stock, still have a few things to do before I call it quits.. this was one of the most complete, undamaged “raced” examples of a quarter scale sprint I have seen.
I spent one night taking it apart and squaring up the frame, and yesterday I painted the frame, polished the parts and assembled it.
One thing I learned is the early WCM is an absolute nightmare to install the engine without shredding the paint on the frame...

steve g: Wonderful un-shredded paint! You're bringing the model back to life!
