rc4wd 1/5 diffs - anyone used them yet?

Post by acc »

Anyone used front, rear or both of these diffs in anything yet that has actually had power run to it and move the car, Or getting close to that point?

Would like to see them in action but haven't seen one in a car yet that's planned on being driven.

Links for anyone who hasn't seen them.

Ah nice, what kind of build are you planning?
Will it be for a new project or are you going to try put them under a current car?

Road? 4x4?
Offroad? 4x4?

Will be interested to watch progress!

Buggah..
Ill be interested to see how it turns out, Ive thought about making an offroad 4x4 with them, I just don't want to spend the money if they turn out to be no good for what I need, I just cant find any links, vids, pics or builds to get a good look of them besides the wcm that was sold on here but it was just for show.. .
I would of liked to have seen that wcm with sand paddles on the rear tires doing some sand driving lol :)

they came today and I have to say i am impressed. they will work for the project. However, they have diffs in them? I thought that was wierd, but Maybe i can make an external locker for them? Hmmmmm.

Another thing is that the axles inside seem really small. But tonight i will tear down and post pics close to a skellenger so people can see. The ring gear in this thing looks to be about 2" and the pumpkin is 2.75" The over all length is 15"

all for now!

Here are some pictures for size comparison and also some of the inside. After taking a close look at these, I would say these would not hold up to hard use. The teeth on the gears are very small and there is not much contact surface. The axles inside are also very thin. I am sure however that these would work in a Onroad application or a rock crawler application which is what i am going to use them for. The size of the rear axle looks good scale wise for trucks and Grand nationals. Its actually a bit too wide for the conley cobra though.

They would have to hold up to a reasonable bashing if they are designed for 1/5 scale cars IE the b5 or similar it would have to be reasonably solid, from most people ive seen how hard they drive there 1/5 cars, they would simply break after the first tank of fuel from most people ive seen how hard they drive there 1/5 cars.

Will be interesting to see how it goes anyway.

Id say anything up to 26cc they should be fine. As long as the car doesn't weight 30 odd kg lol

True, BUT, RC4WD is really into Rock crawling. I think these were designed to build a 1/5 scale rock crawler. Not to be used in a trophy truck. I could be wrong. This is just my first impression from looking at them. But the gear contact is no better then a 1/8 scale car diff.

Have you compared them to a normal b5 diff or similar 1/5 scale lile fg? As they take a huge beating and seem to do well.

I so long as speed, tires, engine power, and weight are all within 1/5 scale area, they should be ok, which is what id do, build a car similar to any normal 1/5'er then fit the diffs under it :)

If you were to put a 110cc in it with 12inch tires I wouldn't be surprised to see the diffs break by the end of the day.

Have you picked a set of wheels for it yet?

This diff is much smaller then the HPI baja. You never know though until you test. So far they are for sure worth the money. 300 bucks, you just cant go wrong. the quality seems very good!!!

I have some wheels and tires from them too i plan on using. The tires scale up to 33" ... not as big as I would like, but still OK.
