Thank you Kaye. While I'm printing out the big parts I'm gathering all the components that go accordingly, scaling and saving as a group. There are literally hundreds of parts to this build, most of the hardware, engine and rear will be real. Just a mini update until the nose section is done. Then onto the cockpit. :)

Hey folks, part 2 of the nose cone is complete and one more part to go then onto to cockpit. when all complete I will join all pieces together. As I mentioned before, I could simply print a complete nose in one shot but I don't recommend doing it this way. Much cleaner and risk free in parts. Hope you enjoy

Wow, now there's some pretty serious looking 3D print lab there!

Thanks Kaye. I'm getting a few emails on where and how I get my models and if I created them. Mostly yes, I created most of the body parts or modified existing parts. When you get models in STL form, most of the time they are connected or merged or morphed together, which is basically all the same. So I either trace the existing part or recreate it with organic shapes and go from there using Fusion 360. Here is a shift knob I made from an organic shape along with the boot. I'm no expert but as I take apart these models I could see how they all have the universal language of 3D programs. The sky is the limit when you learn these tools.

Here is another quick example I've been using. Make a sketch of the basic shape, in this case the rear of the Lotus 49 cockpit, place the trace you made over an organic shape, cut, extrude, mold or shape via points and faces. this is just hundreds of ways to create objects that are stuck in your mind

Hey folks, finished the nose section of the lotus 49 and will join the parts together soon, ran out of blue filament and went with orange. Doesn't matter as this will be light sanded, primed and painted. The parts came out outstanding and will make a beautiful 1/4 scale model. Next will be the cockpit area. Hope you enjoy.

Thank you Kaye and Cal, This project is also posted on facebook. Up to quarter of the way through the front section of the cockpit and looking fantastic, this section alone is 87 hours to print with a decent set quality and a good amount of inlay to make the model strong and solid for a nice display piece. In case anyone is wondering, the halo around the print is called a "brim" that gets removed after the print is complete. As I mentioned before, I have a larger printer to do this in one shot but with risks of Murphy's law. I should have the cockpit section done by next week. After that I will light sand, fill in the gaps if any, prime and paint with the lotus British green and yellow theme. I saved all the sections for future prints in any size. Hope you enjoy

Getting there, 6 more hours for this front section. in the future I'm going to print hollow shells of the body and make a new metal chassis. I'm trying to find a Jim Clarke driver file.

87 hours to print. Questions ..... what's the filament spool change protocol? What happens if you need to change a filament spool in the middle of the night? Will the printer shut down so that it can resume printing later on when the filament spool has been replaced?

Kaye I live and learned on this body section, by the time I figured out that in the program I could of picked what type of pattern infill I could have used (about 10 in total) and cut it down to 5%, this section would have taken 24 hours even less with different patterns and percentages and still be super strong. The PRUSA printer I have has a lot of fail safe sensors, from filament run out, power shortage and resume, pause the print and reload and accidental crashes. If it runs out of filament it stays on stand by till you refill and resume. It is one of the best printers out there, I'm hoping PRUSA makes a larger printer as I want to add one to my collection. I sold my My creality cr 10s pro printer this morning, not a big fan of creality printers, again, live and learn.

You're welcome Kaye. The printed nose cone in my opinion came out great for my Lotus 49 1/4 scale. The car is not a museum quality build and never intend to be but for a scratch build racer it's okay. Now I need to make the nose cone brackets to support the nose and then add the front suspension. After that it's sanding, painting and decals. I'm also making a 1/4 scale static model of the Lotus 49. Hope you enjoy.

Hey folks, I will be working on making a complete template set of the 1/4 scale lotus 49 chassis. These will be plastic templates that when printed and numbered can be traced over desired metal or brought to a service that provides laser cutting, the templates will also have all the cut outs and holes for cross members. The templates are printed in low quality to save time and material but serve the purpose
