Hi, Has anybody changed a bent shaft on Raco shocks. If I can't find the long shocks for the Jac-Rabbit I was going to remove the short shaft for longer ones. Are they even repairable or do you just buy a whole new unit .I hope the ends are not a press fit,I don't see threads. Thanks

I asked about taking the shocks apart a while ago and never got an answer. I figured it out on my own.
They are press fit. I repaired some shocks by taking good parts from some to move to others, so I end up with a good shock and one really bad trashed shock...lol
Getting the piston off the shaft is pretty easy. Getting the end mount off the shaft is much more difficult.

I figured they were a press fit .I tried holding the shaft and turning the mount end .It just went around and around. How did you remove the ends.I'am going to thread the piston and thread the aluminum mount end.Thanks.

Try heating the ends with a propane torch. The aluminum will expand and then you can pull them off easer. DON’T MELT THE ALUMINUM! McMaster Carr has stainless dowel pins that work great in the shocks. They don’t rust like the stock ones.

Hi, The heat worked perfectly.I was about to do just that when Cryotek posted that same procedure.Thanks.I went to my hobby store and they where out of stainless rod ,so I bought some brass instead. The brass will do for now.If anybody want to try this the rod size is 3/16".I think I'll start a tutorial on the GNs and Jac-Rabbits since they are the only ones I have.I'am by no means a expert on these cars but having pics of the parts placement would help alot. It would be about original parts assembly,Because when someboby buys these cars they are always missing parts or subsituted with some other part. For example my Raco GNs have spacers between the rear bulkhead and the frame and where the motor mounts with the frame. My Jac-Rabbit doesn't have these. What's correct? If I had a original Jac-Rabbit or other car I would take pics and post them ,Then people would have a reference to go to .I know there is a Jac-Rabbit manual on here but the pics are not that great .No fault of the member who posted them of course.Thanks.
