hey guys/gals,
if I.M.D.R.A. and R.O.D.S allow 1/4 scale pro stock and rails to run on their 1/10 track, would any of you be interested in running at one of the national events? i am a member so, could ask them. i also have a new era 1/4 scale pro stock and nobody to race with here in connecticut. if so let me know,
miguel68perez@yahoo.com
if not ,well, i guess ill have to sell my 72cc quadra powered, wheel standing pro stock. ha,ha.
it sure would be nice to see a 10 or even 20 car field.

i dont think imdra or rods have posted their schedules yet. last year i raced at new jersey, and north carolina. i think they also do a race at indy. i plan on going to these 3 races and running my 1/10 scale cars. i am also going to bring the new era 1/4 car and another 27cc pro stock that i should have done in a few weeks.

my 27cc pro stock is just a big pan car . good power to weight ratio (hopefully) and inexpensive to reproduce and repair. sooner or later we all crash big time. and pan cars are easy to fix.
well, hopefully we can get something going here, i aint givin up yet.

Hey Miguel, I will post photos or a link to them once I get further along. Thanks for asking. I also am not using the body you mentioned and am making my own. It's a huge task, but should be worthwhile. A new area of the hobby for me..... sculpting, lol.
mtmoore1, I am not too far from you. I am in North Central Tennessee near the Ky line, so I may be able to come play with you guys some.

I have visited your site as well as the Indy site. Your project looks real nice too. I hope to see more of it as you progress. I also have a friend in Nashville, Indiana that is pretty close to you. He has contacted you about rules, etc and passed all the info along to me.
I have to mention that "scale" appearing cars will always promote the hobby. I say that due to the mention of pan cars. I think pan cars are good for those wanting to build a cheaper car, but if they compete with the more scale appearing cars that may be heavier, then there would be a problem. The scale appearing cars would be at a disadvantage leaving those guys to either build a pan car or quit. Losing the scale appearing cars in this area of the hobby would be detrimental for it's future. Keeping a fair playing field is while maintaining the integrity of the hobby is important. I realize that there are "bracket" classes to help in this area, but making a minumum weight to keep the scale car entries there is good.
I had to mention my opinion on this because I would really hate to see the tube frame cars disappear from the hobby in this area to be replaced with pan cars.

hello guys and gals, i just want to say that i respect racers who keep the cars true to scale. but whenever i talk to people about q scale drag racing, the first thing they say is "they are vary expensive and that they are slow". i may be wrong , but this is what hurts the sport and is why there isnt a lot of q-scale drag racing all over the country. the last thing i want to do is hurt the sport. if dad wants to buy a drag car for him and his son right now, he is going to spend $ 4000.00. its just too much.
my opinion, if you really want the sport to grow, keep it simple and affordable, 3.0 sec .et (132')
well, i really hope this doesnt upset anyone.
thanks, miguel

good topic.
If they were made simple and cheap, what would seperate them from smaller scale cars? Thats whats wrong with the nascars now, they look like outdated smaller scale cars. 1/4 scale is not cheap or inexpensive, just like how bagging groceries is not a career.
The way this scale needs to go is back to its roots, big cars with scale looks, whatever the cost, people will pay. Not all will be able to afford, but thats just the way it is. I will never be able to buy a lamborghini... I am ok with that

I agree with mike on this one. Yea they are high priced, but they are not to be compared to the smaller scales in there size so the price would be no different. I think we need to make them like there full size counter parts yes they will cost more to build but they will have that WOW factor that they used to have. Maybe my problem is I remember the "old cars" but they were so much more interesting back then.
BTW mike if you can never afford a Lamborghini build a KIt thats what I'm doing.

hello guys, i respect what you guys are saying, but, who says we have to seperat q-scale from the smaller cars? all im saying is that i'd like to see the sport grow so i dont have to drive all the way to indy and ohio just to race my car.(i plan on running at these tracks this year with a HEAVY car,ha ha) i would be willing to sell most of 1/10 scale drag cars if i could run my 1/4 scale car at any 1/10 scale national event. but nobody runs q-scale because of the reasons i mentioned. but do you guys agree with me? do you really want to see the sport grow (20 car field)? . i'm doing my part. i saw a guy running a tube chassis car , and when he crashed it and bent that nice chrome moly chassis, guess what ?, he had to go home and that was a shame.
oh well, i have to go to work. i just want to say i enjoy chatting with you guys about this.
thanks, miguel

Hey guys, first I didn't intend to offend anyone. Sorry miguel if you think I am trying to "ban" your cars from the hobby. That is far from what I want. I just want a place for them all to fit in and not have the "pan" car dominate causing the scale of the hobby to disappear. I just think having good rules to allow a fair playing field for all is important. Maybe just a seperate class for them is all that is needed. I would build one and race with you for sure, but I still want to keep my scale looking cars competitive too. It is the scale realism that got me involved and has got others involved as well. When I used to do pulling, it was the scale vehicles that always had the crowd around them and this draws people in. I had many people get into that area of the hobby because of them seeing my trucks.
I want a place for everyone on every budget that have different skill levels of building or fabricating to be able to compete and have fun.
In summary, I like your idea of "pan" car type 1/4 scale and I am sure it would appeal to those on a budget or with limited skills. It is something that would add more people involved. I hope this makes some sense, lol.
Rules have been the downfall of many forms of competition in our hobby. I am 49 yrs old and have raced all scales since 1982 and have watched as things went away due to poorly run events and the lack of good rules.
An example is in pulling, they have a gas class that states a 39cc limit, maximum octane of 94, etc... These are unenforcable rules that cause nothing but problems since they have no way to tech these rules. No fuel is ever checked and they only ask what size your motor is, lol. Come on, if you can't tech it, don't write it.
For 1/4 scale drag racing, there are some real issues to consider for the future of it. This discussion about the fair playing field, keeping scale cars competitive while allowing pan cars to fit in as well is one of the topics. Another that comes to mind is the clutches. Standard centrifigal clutches should be covered. It only takes one guy to design a manually opertated high revving clutch in his shop to ruin things for the rest that don't have those skills.
I won't go on, but this is a general idea of what I am cautious about.

By the way Mike, sorry this has turned into this discussion in the WTB forum. I know it doesn't belong here, but this is where we are, lol.
As for promoting interest and getting this area of the hobby going again, media coverage is best. We now have at least four magazines dedicated to the hobby of RC Cars. Radio Control Car Action, RC Driver, Xtreme Rc Cars and RC Car, yet you never see anything 1/4 scale related in either of them. It's like this area of the hobby is being kept a secret, lol. I understand the politics of no 1/4 scale advertisers, no coverage, lol. There are also no "in your face" manufacturers either. I mean catalogs in my mailbox, etc. To locate the manufacturers, you have to know about them and find them yourself. I could go on, but it just seems like the scenario is "don't tell anyone, but there are also 1/4 scale cars in RC". Of course, I never see it as big as the other scales due to their mass media coverage and manufacturer support; however, it could be awesome just the same.
Niche's in the hobby like ours aren't wide spread usually, but still can survive and prosper. I look back at the "pulling" I mentioned earlier, that is a nother "Niche" in the hobby, but it has prospered for 16 years and has two major events a year. People travel great distances to do this. I would like to see this happen in 1/4 scale drag racing. It's a start. One location that is central to alot of people and one or two events a year. Advertise it in the magazines and let's go racing, lol. Hmmm, sounds easy doesn't it, lol. Although not easy, it can be done.

hey guys, no offense taken. i've seen r/c driver at the national events and they are involved in sponcering the 1/10 scale drag races.thats my 41 willys on page49 feb. 06 issue. i have e-mailed them just to say thanks for helping the sport of 1/10 sacle drag racing.
all we have to do is let them know were here! e-mail them, show pics, show up at events with permission . we have to show up in numbers. not one or two cars
i would probably be the only one with a pan car for a while and have no problem adding weight to the car. i would much rather run a dial in .
one thing i'll always remember is, that this is for fun. and making new friends is a part of it.
the magazines are closer than you think.
thanks, miguel
