WHAT EVER HAPPENED!!!!!!!!!!

What ever happened to all the manufactures that were building cars? What ever happened to the authenticity and creativity of our great hobby. I am really glad that mike has dedicated himself to finding the history of these cars for the new comers who missed it all. I grew up dreaming of having some of the great cars that are lost in garages all over the country. Now that I'm old enough to afford them all the cars I remember are gone. everyonce in a while you will see one pop up on ebay but what else do we have. The cars of today are a joke as far as I'm concerned. I dont understand how we have three manufactures that build cars and they all look the same. Remember the old days the cars looked like a REAL car. now what do they look like. Yea the body may resemble a real car but thats the only thing. I hope that one day we can once again have a chioce of a car or part. Now if you need a car three numbers gets you a car, If you need tires One number will get you those. Thats it there is one person making tires for three different manufactures. Something is wrong with that where do you buy the cool stuff like wheels rear ends whatever you need. You cant. I founf a couple sites on here finally to get some of these things but in general there is just nothing going on anymore like the past What Happened.
Sorry guys but I just hate that this hobby has ended up the way it is. I'm not very good at expressing myself on a computer but it just make me Ill that things are so different now.I think that it is very unhealthy for there to be only three manufactures building cars and that there is only one source to buy tires.
I guess I have rambled enough, I just had to ask

You are not the only one that feels that way. The bodys now are not even that great looking and they are too short to be 1/4 scale too.

I sadly am in the same boat as you. Just when you can afford something, you cant get it

How can we change this mike. I mean this site alone is a step. One of the many things I can't understand is why are these cars so expensive? There is NO reason the cars of today should cost $1300. on up. There is nothing to them, The cars back in the day cost a good bit but they had alot more work in them with the full cages and things like that. Anyway before I go on rambling again Its just a shame that this is where this hobby is now. Also what happened to the super modified and the outlaw classes? You have sprintcar, sportsman and grandnational wow which one do I choose
I would like to have some serious answers on this next question.
Does anyone think QSAC had something to do Indirectly or directly to make our hobby what it has turned out to be?
Good or bad I would like to hear your opinions.

I agree on the current selling price of these cars. Its nuts! If someone just had a bunch of money we really could bring it back, but whos going to risk it? None of the original guys made much money, just enough to get by. I really think there are things that they could have done to make the scale even better, but no one did them.
I absolutely think QSAC had a little to do with the decline and some of the original manufacturers will tell you that too. QSAC was real restricting when it came to bodies and always wanted the newest up to date body. Well, when it costs 5k plus to make a mold plus another 4k in a minimum body run it makes it hard to justify making a new body too often. Another thing that really started the decline was the $900 wcm car with the beltdrive on the left wheel. This car was not even legal when it was sold. But they sold so many that a lot of people showed up at the track with them and QSAC was forced to legalize them. After that everyones cars got cheaper to compete, removing rearends and removing tubing from the frames. This in my opinion is what started the decline of the scale and when the cars started not looking so scale anymore people started to loose interest in them. Now these cars are no cooler then smaller scale cars, they are just bigger and after the past 10 years they have been passed up by modern design and technology.

That is my opinion in better words. I think you are exactly right about the WCM car.
As far as QSAC goes, I have not been a member but have been around alot of people and this hobby for a long time, and they definately played a part in the decline of the 1/4 scale hobby. I mean even now something as simple as buying a car from someone on the QSAC site you have to be a QSAC member to post a car or part for sale. What kinda crap is that, Thats definetly a way to get new people into the hobby. It seems to me QSAC is like High school if your not in the CLICK then your nothing. I know thats not the best analogy but thats all I can come up with.
Mike throw some ideas out about getting the hobby back like we knew it.
I would be interested in doing anything I can to help it, I just don't have all the answers.
Come on guys, I know mike and myself are not the only ones with opinions on this. Your not going to hurt my feeling no matter what you say. I just want to know what people are thinking.

Funny you ask. I posted the following on a 1/4 racing forum where a large amount of racers are members of. The replies I got to it were pretty poor, as in not many replies. Its almost like some of these guys dont want to change anything or fix it.
________________________________________________________
My ideas to attract more interest into the sport. Please comment on
your views on these ideas and why you think they are good or bad.
Have a class dedicated to or change the current style of cars to a
scale appearing car. Full cage, axle, driver, window nets the whole
nine yards. I honestly believe this was a big reason that there was so
much interest in this scale in the late 80's early 90's. As the years
past away, the cars have lost their scale appeal, gotten smaller and
have turned into stricktly racing machines. Even as just a race
machine, cars available today are way behind the technology of modern
day 1/8, 1/5 and 1/10 scale cars. I think the best thing we have to
offer to the industry is the scale looks to go along with the size.
China will never offer this.
Bring back concourse to get racers excited again about having the most
scale looking car!
Make races spectator friendly. We need food vendors, nice stands that
are in shade, advertising that races are being held, etc...
Get more money into the sport! Investors are needed to help fund new
projects and help build tracks that are easy on the eyes. In the past
many people invested money into this sport because they were involved
in it. Lets give them a reason to fall in love with it again like
making the cars scale again.
I am not trying to start anything negetive or anything, just throwing
out ideas to see what everyones thoughts are and ideas.

I wish I lived on the west coast I would be right in there. Talk about tracks remember TBS superspeedway? I live 45min. from there and it is a total disaster area. What an awesome track back in the day. That was my first taste of 1/4 scale. I wish I new how to get the interest back.
Do you think a big parking lot would work for a while to get people interested. Right now that is my only option. we have a couple tracks that are 2 to 3 hours away but I dont even know if they are still doing anything or not.
I agree with the cars being as scale as possible, I think that was a big draw for people and it's just not there anymore. Like I said in my earlier post why dont they have an Outlaw class anymore what happened there? I think if the sactioning body would stand back and take a long hard look they have to know that the hobby is not healthy.

No disrespect to anyone, but I deleted a couple posts here to clean it up a bit and keep on topic.
On the QSAC issue, I just came across a newsletter from them that pretty much marks the date of decline of 1/4 scale. Its when the board members that were also manufacturers left and there was a large controversy over the WCM car. I framed it for my museum.

Right after all this people started protesting with bumber stickers... QSUCK.

Bob, you need to be a paying QSAC member now to be able to post anything for sale on the QSAC.org site. It sucks, there is almost nothing for sale over there anymore. I can understand the concern, but everyone knows, buy at your own risk.

I'm sure you all have heard of Rialto airport speedway, for the last few years it's been the only hang out for 1/4 oval racing. but it seems that the city will be closing the track in early 07. but plans for a new track will be breaking ground soon, with a off road, oval, and drag strip. Since my renewed love for 1/4 cars are so strong I'll be putting up money for all 1/4 events (no QSAC events) which means on a normal club race $200 oval and about $300 drags with anycar!!!!! oval if you have an old pacesetter or new era your ok, any body!!! any frame!!! as long as it was legal at one time then it can run. need some input on a class for them let me know.
I will also hold a 1/4 scale drag race at the new track $1000 to win!!!
now this depends on the amount of cars at least 12 cars bracket shoot out
please leave me some post and help me out on this thanks Oscar.

Hi blkracer3
I see you are trying to promote 1/4 racing in Ca. thats great to hear. How are you going to promote the track? If it is with money not sure if that will work. With new Qsac deal if you are a member and buy a car or parts you will get a 10% discount. How many new guys have joined Qasc for this deal? I should take some heat on that one.
You have or had the biggest promotion tool one could ask for.You have or had one or 2 people who appeared on TV every now and then. Not at one time did i see them promote 1/4 scale. Why i say one or 2 is because im not sure if tv guy is from Ca.The other raced at Railto.I won't say names because not sure if it right.I hope the people who are building the track have alot of sucess with it.
Mike i wondering what controversy over the WCM car you are talikng about. When Raco built their car there was a big fight because it was independent rear setup remember that.I was told by Raco at a R/C car show in Alanta in the late 80's or early 90's not to give up.They did i didn't.The next year a certain manufactuer had a new salesman for the shows.Depending on how you walked through show you would see us or the other guy.If you saw him first then came to our table. We were told by the people that the other guy said don't buy from them.Is this a way to make the hobby grow.
The guy in SC
Where did all the manufactures goes.Alot of them used a Skellenger Rear. When production stop on them so did those cars.PRC,Qiuck draw,Phoenix Arrow and GLD.Now there other reasons also why they stopped building.
Tires you are right. There was a guy in NC. that made tires what happened to him.He made my 8 inch dia. rear tires and my front drag donut tires for me.I made the molds for the front tires and the molds for the bands for the rear.Never did get them back wonder why.
Thanks Ed

don't know just yet sir, at the old track is word of mouth by Qsac, and by it being a go Kart track and airport news spreads quick. in the mean time i'm looking into cable tv time and more " inside rc" with Amy Curtis, she leaves a few block away from me. so thst means both web and tv, out here it's the outdoors channel, but i'm open to what ever i have nothing but time. the sport of 1/4 racing will not die in Cali!!!!
