New guy with a thousand questions!!!

Hey guys I'm new to the board and I have some questions if you dont mind. First of all I'm deep into the rc boat hobby and have been since the 1990. I run AC Razors with Quickdraw 25cc marine engines. The boats top out at about 60mph but some cats and outriggers have see over 80 and even 100. Those boats usually are one offs but still run. Anyway I'm here to talk about cars so I'll shut up about the boats. I picked up this car about 15 years ago and put it in the shed. I have no Idea what it is. I also have a Quickdraw marine engine 70cc. Do Ya'll think I can get this thing set up and is it worth it? it sure would be cool. A two banger water cooled 70cc twin. The only thing holding me back is the tires and wheels. I dont know if they are still available. So guys I'm open to suggestions. Thanks Gary G

Hi, Gary!

You found the right place to go with your Q-scale questions. This forum is the best one for seeing how people build and restore Q-scale cars, all the way from Vintage restorations to full-on CNC fabbed stuff, to 100% budget scrapyard builds.

Love the look of that twin-cylinder sitting in there. That's really unusual for these types of cars. I think you're going to get a jillion questions from US on performance tips for these types of engines. You boat guys are really up on wringing top performance from them.

You've got a nice start there, but don't just wait for vintage original factory parts to show up on the 'Bay.... don't hesitate to fabricate new parts and pieces as you need, there's really not appreciable "vintage" resale value on even a 100% original factory component car... if you could EVER find all the original parts, which is pretty doubtful.

That's one premise too many hopeful new Q-scale guys fall into, they buy a chassis, incomplete, then get discouraged when 20-year old original parts are not readily available to "restore" them. Next thing you know, the car is back on Ebay, LOL!!!

Welcome aboard!

Wow you guys are great! thanks for the great tips. I guess I'm going to move forward on the project. I'll keep ya'll informed via the projects section after I get started. I've got my hands full with a hundred other projects but i'm going to find time for this one. I'm going to start to get the parts together in the morning. I'll be seeing ya!! Thanx again.

PS heres a video of the engines in one of my boats. This thing new was 9k. I picked it up used for 2800. It is an 84" Apache with two twin quickdraw 70cc engines. This video was the first time I ever drove the boat so we didnt lay down the hammer. The boat has since been parted out.

If I can mount the engine like this I can use the pipes with a few small mods to the cage. Back in the day I owned a New Era 1/4 scale stadium truck that had a really cool quick change rearend. I dont think it was posi though. Are those rears still available? Does anyone know which direction that they have to rotate at the pinion? Thanks

i have always wanted to do that with a quickdraw engine. Should be wicked cool. You will need a stronger rear then the RC4wd one. Try quartermortar. http://quartermortar.com/options.htm it is a posi rear. Very strong too.

Hey look at the 3rd post in the forsale section , you will see a great rear end on a tubed framed car just like yours....they go for around 300 dallors. I dont know how strong they are but some of the guys are using them. Have a good day....
