1/4 scale drag racing national events
So we have a bunch of guys here in NY, that each weekend, on Sunday mornings, get together and run a series of races on our dedicated 330 ft 1/4 scale drag strip.
Most of the guys have been running there for 20 years, I myself, just the last few.
But at the same time, the old timers and the newer guys kind of get bored racing the same people each week, with the exception of some new racers that we pick up along the way.
I have been on many forums, I have searched high and low and I cannot find any recent videos or pictures of any other 1/4 scale drag racing going on....?
Are we the last surviving club around???? Are we the only guys that push our cars to the limit???? Please don't take this the wrong way, but is anyone else enjoying some driving time with these machines besides us?
I have heard of a club out in Lynwood that does race, but I have found no recent video or pictures that these guys are still running, I think we need people to know, these cars are not just shelf queens or oversized models, they can actually be used and enjoyed.
So with that said, on behalf of the Brooklyn Quarter Scale Association, I would like to welcome, spectators, enthusiasts and racers to join us before the end of the season, come check it out, you just might enjoy yourself.
And for any of the other clubs, please post some videos or pictures, let people know these models actually work.
Anyone from the Lynwood club that would be interested in setting up a national event, please contact me back, we would love to host a series, as well as travel and run on your home court.
Thank you

Here's the link to the Lynwood track.
Guy Hilleary, Hank Cork and I have all run up there, but it's a 132-foot tenth-scale track. They let us run under IMDRA sanction/rules, 55cc limit, etc.

Re: 1/4 scale drag racing national events
Hey guys, thanks for the response, we would be interested in doing something, the only problem is running these big cars on a 10th scale track, kinda defeats the whole purpose if you ask me..
I'm not saying you can't have fun doing it, but taking a 4 foot long funny car or a 7 foot dragster down a 132 feet at a 1/3 of the normal speed, doesn't seem exciting enough for most of these guys (15-20) to travel to lynwood, unless you guys have enough room to set up a 330 track and enough room for shut down, we can fly in every other weekend.!
Most of our guys run with no brakes, no chutes, nothing, we only need a couple extra hundred feet for shut down.
Thanks for posting up the video, but that's exactly what I mean, that video is at least 2 years old....Are they still running them over there???????
Anyway, if you guys wanna set up something nationally, we need to run 1/4 scale cars on a 1/4 scale track, looking at cars going down the track at 50mph is not that exciting, seeing them break a 100mph or running a 3.80ET is !
I would love to speak with you guys about setting up something for next season, if we can do it, it may just put a spark under some guys rear end to pull these cars out of retirement..

Nope, sorry....
The Lynwood track is a tenth-scale dedicated facility. It's probably 250 feet in total.

Re: 1/4 scale drag racing national events
Hey Joe, yup, they have been around and dedicated to 1/4 scale drag racing for 20+ years.
I am fortunate to be apart of a great bunch of guys that are very knowledgeable at what they do, everyone is there to help one another and even after all these years, the club is growing with new members and supporters.
Some of the original members from back in the day are long gone, but the stories told and the memories shared by the original members are inspiring and can be helpful to the new blood the club has received.
The club is seriously looking to set up a series of races at the national level and we are willing to work with any clubs, shops, companies and people that really have a serious out look to getting quarter scale drag racing off the ground.
I think it would open the hobby back up to guys that are building and making parts, or the guy that has the cars to use, but no place to run them...
Nobody is saying collectors need to pull the cars off the shelf and run them, but if they had a place or reason to race them, they would set up cars they can have fun with and compete, pumping the life back into these great machines.
Anyway, I sure hope we can find someone else other then us, that is willing to help us get this off the ground, once it starts I think there will be no stopping it again.
Thanks

hey peter,
i do not think you guys need to get anything off the ground, and running, as you guys have been running all along!!!! your club is the oldest still running drag racing club in the WORLD!!!! ALL eyes are watching you, and your club still sets the standard for 1/4 scale drag racing.... i think all you need to do is keep racing every weekend, as all can only wish to have what you guys have......ENJOY!!!!

Re: 1/4 scale drag racing national events
NYCdragracer, that would be real cool to see all Q/S drag cars at one big race. The only problem is i live in Texas and NYC is along way to go for a race. Though it would be cool to see what my car could do in 330' track.
