Home made Dragster
Hi Guys,
Well, I'm sure you've all seen the bits'n'pieces over the years, so I'll just stick in this link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LWX9-D8Obc
just look for "Mudgrove" on youtube and there's a couple more.
....and one photo. (had to shrink it, so it's not the best)
I'm waiting for my buddy to make that damn pipe, jobs for free incur a waiting time - I'll just have to live with that.

Re: Home made Dragster
So gonna do a burn out video or are those tyres to expensive lol
Hrem, Yes.. I see.
Re: Home made Dragster
sure will....10 bucks each - second hand kart slicks - worn out for a kart, but still plenty of meat for a toy car, dude
Go hard...or GO HOME!!!
Re: Home made Dragster
Small puddle of kerosene, fishing line tied to the rear wing struts to something solid, you'll get a smokey burnout!
Okay, off the bench....let's see it run!!!

Dont tell me you got the rim and tyre for $10 but just each tyre right?
Hrem, Yes.. I see.
Re: Home made Dragster
Tyres 10 bucks each - the rims were about 30 - 40 bucks each...shoulda saved some more coin and gone with the magnesium jobs - much lighter.
Anyhoo, these'll do.

Re: Home made Dragster
G'day 1/4 scale people...it's been a while since I visited here.
I scored a Spektrum DX3S for Christmas...telemetry and all.
I managed 11,340 RPM on a test run in my front lawn - car looks funny on wet grass
I fixed the pipe myself.
I'm just tooling around with a better chute mechanism right now....
I managed to replace the sail winch with a small hi torque servo; now the chute pops out real quick. I made a kinda "Jack-in-the-box" set up to get the chute out.
I have to make a MK11 bag, and I need the Missus' friend to sew it up for me (she's handy with a sewing machine)
Anyway, here's a quick vid of the solution

Well, I had a shakedown test in an Industrial area....only problems wereM.R. Ogle wrote:Small puddle of kerosene, fishing line tied to the rear wing struts to something solid, you'll get a smokey burnout!

1. Stupid me didn't tighten the grub screw at the rear axle/sprocket (no biggie - I'd stopped before it got bad)
2. The inlet manifold came away from the motor (just need to make a link or 2 to keep it together)
I managed to get 17,280 RPM out of the ol' saw motor - you gotta admit, that ain't bad for an old, tired, agricultural motor, right?
here's a quick vid before I went for a spin

Re: Home made Dragster
Got no news sorry, been doing domestic jobs, and work, work, work.
I spoke to Kent from Killer RC, and I will be ordering a Killer Bee Pico kill switch before going any further. The chute bag will now be a skin from an old umbrella from the lost&found (a mate at the railways got me one)
that's about the only thing I can make at the moment....
I've spoken to 2 x airstrip management guys...one is used throughout the day, but an EARLY morning run just may be permissible...I can see myself on a ladder at half strip..car coming towards me, then away...only if I am allowed...dunno yet if I am.
Got no concerns about reaction times, ET's top speed...doesn't matter yet.
I just wanna go for a SPIN!!!

Re: Home made Dragster
OK, Kent from Killer RC has sent me a Pico kill switch (a good insurance policy if you ask me)
I will be tinkering with that this weekend if possible.
Here's a quick vid I made last weekend to fill in the missing pieces. (no sound, got stripped away - damn you tube and WMG)

Re: Home made Dragster
Can't WAIT to see an action video! Be sure to set your failsafe function on your radio!
Re: Home made Dragster
Thanks Mike, I have done all the prelim setups in the radio...Throttle OFF (which is also mech kill switch ON), chute released, are all failsafe conditions. The Pico switch is that something extra, if the car battery fails, or something. I really need this car to do as it's told, eh.

Re: Home made Dragster
Pico switch is all put in. All works the way it's meant to.
Checking out some sites to run now, and rounding up the cameramen.

Well, I finally can down tools.
And it's about time, too, I hear you say. I know I've been slow here, but I have a day job, you know.

Mother's Day tomorrow, so I won't be setting foot in the garage.

Hey Mud,
Great work mate, love the little chute too, I might do something similar with mine. Do you know the all-up weight of your car, ready to run?? Mine's a tad over 12kg's.
Cheers,
Smithy.
